Wisconsin Official Instructs Staff Not To Mention Free IDs For Voting

if anyone is coming in for a voter id, because they do not have a government id yet are citizens, then it should be paid for by the government, so that there is not a FEE to vote(a poll tax).....which is against the law.

A free ID is available, upon request. Which is as it should be.

Snippet from the copyright-violating OP:

"The DMV is applying the voter ID law that the legislature provided to it," Krieser told Reuters.

"It says the customer has to request it. So we've taken the strict reading of the statute and that's how we've implemented it. That's all that the memo was getting at."

OMGNOWAY!...They're following the letter of the law!

Right, voters have to ask, which means that some voters will walk away without an ID simply because DMV employees are not allowed to inform them that the IDs are free. That amounts to a poll tax, which is against the law.

And BTW, report me if you think I violated the posting rules.

The law was written in such a manner as to try to NOT have people get the IDs.

Waaawaaa.

They're not required to tell them about the IDs at all...They're also not required to tell me that I can refuse to give up my SSN to obtain a fishing license either, and I don't hear whiny little liberoidal wankers all up in arms about that.

insulting people for wanting Americans to vote.

Can you fools be any more transparent?

has the law been publicized saying such and telling our citizens who do not have a government id, that they can go and get one, for free, if need be, if they ask?

As long as everyone is fully AWARE that they can get a gvt approved voter's id for free then i have no problems with it.

The Public should be fully informed of the law, and it should not be kept hidden from them.....they ARE CITIZENS for christ sake, and should not be put through hurdles to vote, in this day and age.

besides, I thought this was to stop ILLEGALS from voting, but it sure seems like it is to stop those citizens, without id....and that is simply wrong, unjust.

Voter ID laws like this have been upheld by SCOTUS as constitutional.

Krieser argued that there are temporary signs posted at all of the Department of Motor Vehicle stations in the state to inform people they must check the box to request a free ID. He said there are plans to place permanent signs, but that he had no timeline for it.

so fucking evil they missed out on over $300,000 in fees...
Since July 1, when the voter ID law went into effect, 59 percent of roughly 18,300 new IDs issued and renewed in Wisconsin have been free of charge, according to data provided by the Wisconsin DOT.

While there is no data on how many people wanted IDs for the purpose of voting, issuing more than 10,000 IDs free of charge means the state did not collect around $302,000 that it otherwise would have.
How DARE those evil Republicans cause the state to lose out on badly needed funding in order to provide free ID's to anyone who sees the posted signs andASKS!

:lol::lol: You're going to equate your fishing license requirements to the requirements needed to obtain a voter ID? Sorry, but your fishing license is not protected by the Voting Rights Act. Voting is.

My argument is valid and sound. Your little jabs and useless posts are nothing but the cries of a troll who has no argument.

I'm giving you an example of how bureaucrats aren't required to tell you about each and every possible avenue of action that is open to you.

If you can't be bothered to know your rights, then you get -or don't get in this case- what you deserve.

Buncha whiners.

Nice try. You were equating your fishing license to a voter ID. Voting is protected by the Voting Rights Act. Your fishing license is not. No beaurocrat can put any rule in place that hinders a person's ability to legally vote. If DMV employees follow the law, it is inevitable that some people will walk away from the DMV without a voter ID, which means that they will not be able to vote. It will amount to voter suppression. I'm glad you find it so amusing.

It's interesting that the same people who know of every fuckin' dime coming to them through social services, would be unaware of a free id. bullshit, just something else for the babies in Wisconsin, and their liberal/socialist brethren to cry about because they got their asses handed to them.

…the IDs cost $28. Critics say the $28 fee amounts to a poll tax which will discourage low-income voters from registering for an ID.

Actually not, as per Federal law those with no ID may cast a provisional ballot in a jurisdiction where an ID is required.

Ross said his group would file an open records request with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation to obtain "all communications and e-mails related to the issuance of state identification cards for the purposes of voting under the state's voter identification bill."

There should also be documentation authorizing the Agency to use its ‘strict interpretation’ of the statute, disallowing employees volunteering information that the IDs are free.

Advocates of voter ID laws, which have also been passed this year in Texas, Alabama, Kansas, South Carolina, Tennessee and Rhode Island, say the rules are needed to combat voter fraud.

Given the absence of evidence of voter fraud, such laws are highly suspect.

your argument is about as sound as a three dollar bill, or about as sound as the nimrods who compare requiring 'healthcare to be purchased' to 'requiring car insurance'.

So, your argument is that people don't deserve to vote if they don't know their rights. How patriotic of you. Too bad for you though, the Voting Rights Act disagrees with you.

Some people will not be aware of the free ID. It's not advertised. DMV employees are not allowed to mention the free ID unless they're asked. You may think that every person in WI should be able to figure it out on their own, but that's simply not the case. Inevitably, some people will walk away thinking that they can't legally vote. All because they didn't ask and the DMV is not allowed to tell them unless they ask.

By the way, it has nothing to do with your delusions of socialism. It's called the Voting Rights Act. It's been around since 1965. Look it up.

And who got their asses handed to them in WI? All 14 of the Dems up for recall kept their seats. On top of that, Dems unseated 2 Reps. If you want to call that a victory for your side, have at it. In my world, when somebody loses an election that usually means that they are a LOSER.

If they go to get an ID, there are signs explaining that they can get a free one, just by asking for it.

Are workers in the DMV now supposed to force people to read the signs posted?
