I presently use AVG security software. My granddaughter says Windows Essentials, which is free to Windows users, is just as good.

Can it be true that something free can compete with programs that cost up to a hundred dollars and more?

I'm asking for educated opinions.

I've got it installed and it seems to function properly and effectively.

Microsoft Security Essentials is probably as good as...

... any of the free antivirus programs out there.
