The Northeast imports a good deal of juice from our northern neighbor. As a participant in the local power industry I am familiar with the grid in the Northeast and it's generation sources.

Right now scattered throughout New England are no less than two dozen 1,000 megawatt topping plants sitting idle waiting for the price of the megawatt to go up.

There will not be any blackouts But we may see a considerable price increase depending on how severe shortage is.

Canadians are nice. They'll suck it up and do the right thing.

Well the only way they can make it worse for themselves is to shut offs the power supply and remove that rather large source of revenue that they get for the 18 Terawatts New England buys from them annually. We easily have the generation capacity and more.... But it will be pricey!

Was gonna point out that they can't really shut off the light because there is quite a bit of overcapacity up there but they surely can put a hurt on financially.

The local topping plants are far in excess of what we need to make up the loss however the price will be quite high.

How much higher? can you meaningfully speculate?

Well... It could easily double.... If that begins to happen there is something the administration can do to intervene. The problem is the price of the fuel not the electricity supply. The topping plants don't buy in bulk the way the regular generators do. The federal government could mandate that the gas suppliers give the topping plants the same rate during an emergency. That could actually keep the price right where it is.

Let's talk sanctions. They are only effective if the sanctioned has no alternative customers. And of course, no trading partners to trade with who will trade on fair and equitable terms.

Canada's resources are in high demand. Trade with America can be cancelled in favour of better trading partners. Trump is starting a fight with the world that the following admin will take years to correct. If in fact it can be corrected?

Trump's big mistake is in thinking that America is indispensible.

Canada made a move on power companies here in the Pac NW a couple of years ago. I was relieved when the PUCs up here put a stop to the sales.

Meh, it's not like they can sell hydro power to anyone else.

Lol....
Got a point there. Even at 118k ( up to 750 k) the line losses are noticeable over the 300 or so miles to New England.

Canada has called on China to protect us from the evil fascist empire.

Putin is delighted that America, the evil empire is alienating all it's friends!

Quacks to you little tyke.
Your downfall has already begun. Turdeau got the hint--I guess he's smarter than you are. WOW!

No, they will pay for Trump's inflationary policies.

One of many commodities denied that will bring pain to Americans.

This all seems to be just another move by Trump that won't last out the month. Something to pretend that was just a threat that worked for him.
