I'm not sure what you're getting at. My point is that there are subtle, not necessarily benevolent, reasons why the upper classes support the welfare state, regardless of their political affiliation.

The real question that comes up with record profits is why isn't this leading to more expansion in production. The companies not only have good profits but they shed a lot of their debt so they can borrow relatively easily.
