May 5, 1862 the Mexican forces under Profirio Diaz and Benito Juaraz defeated the French at the battle of Pueblo.
It kept most of Norther Mexico (except for Matamoros) out of french hands and made the blockade of the confederacy almost effective. The French were running guns for confederate cotton. So the battle of Pueblo materially shortened the civil war.
It also stopped the last attempt by a european power to re colonize the Americas.
