CDZ Why we must still work with and learn from China on Covid-19

Covid-19 is a tricky little sucker. Scientists and frontline medical providers everywhere are still working out how to deal with it. Nobody can say for sure what measures will work best in every situation, or in different societies with different government and health systems, different resources and customs. Nobody even knows if China’s draconian measures and full-scale social mobilization, which seems to have stopped the spread and allowed that country to re-open, will continue to be successful.

Sure, we're going to learn about that virus for quite some time. Just as we are learning by doing, as we cope with it, right? As you note, the draconian measures the Chinese implemented probably won't fly here, so we will likely have to put up with the virus lingering among idiots too stupid to adhere to social distancing guidelines and "essential workers" inevitably exposed while working. That's to say, is there that much to learn from China?

As to testing positive after recovery - that can happen with coronaviruses, but it appears that our bodies are shedding dead viral materials for quite some time even after the immune system emerged victorious. That is not necessarily a sign one is infectious. But yeah, there are going to be studies done on that, and likely not just a few.
