Why Trump's first moves in office have been so scary. He is launching a full-scale war against modern liberalism.

“President Donald Trump and his aides are launching a full-scale war against modern liberalism. And I’m very worried that they will be successful. Though what exactly defines liberalism is contested, the term generally refers to the protection of individual rights, such as free speech and property ownership. But self-identified liberal politicians and liberal voters in the United States and around the world (particularly in Europe) have embraced a much broader set of values and practices that I’m referring to as modern liberalism.

Those include robust higher-education systems where students and professors have a significant amount of freedom in what they teach and research; attempts to ensure equality across lines of race, gender and sexual orientation; respect for independent authorities that act as a check on elected leaders, such as the news media; enthusiasm for ethnic, racial and religious diversity, as well as immigration, free-trade agreements, and other forms of multilateralism and multiculturalism.
[…]
Now, Trump is taking on modern liberalism even more aggressively, by firing inspectors general, freezing federal funding for scientific research, restricting immigration, trimming transgender rights and making a number of other moves in his first nine days in office that previous Democratic and Republican presidents had avoided. Many of his actions resemble and are borrowed from other anti-liberal politicians, including Hungary’s Viktor Orban and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis.”

Trump is pursuing a reckless, irresponsible, and destructive agenda that is illiberal, fascist, and authoritarian – contrary to the norms recognized and respected by both Democratic and Republican presidents.

He's actually restoring liberalism, what he is fighting against is social justice, DEI, and modern progressivism/statism.

"Modern Liberalism" ie Demafacsim

yes, he is waging war against destructive policies that made a majoirty of the country worse off, surrendered to the taliban, surrendered our border to the cartels, and allowed China to openly spy on us.

generally?

really?

Seems to me it's 'generally' tromping on traditional values.

allowing young teens to decide what 'gender' they prefer, young girls to get abortions without the knowledge of their parents, teachers to have more input on student lives than their families, etc.

“The principal feature of American liberalism is sanctimoniousness. By loudly denouncing all bad things — war and hunger and date rape — liberals testify to their own terrific goodness. More important, they promote themselves to membership in a self-selecting elite of those who care deeply about such things.... It's a kind of natural aristocracy, and the wonderful thing about this aristocracy is that you don't have to be brave, smart, strong or even lucky to join it, you just have to be liberal.” PJ O'Rourke

Except that the liberals aren’t denouncing Islamic terrorism against Jews, so they are NOT objecting to all bad things. In some cases, they promote it.

Oh, it was fine for Biden to declare war on MAGA, but now it’s outrageous he’s declared war on radical leftwing lunatics.

He is launching a full-scale war against modern liberalism.
Good!

Modern liberalism is in no way philosophically in alignment with the principles of fundamental liberalism anyway.

And it's laughable, as well as outright embarrassing, when both theoretical sides of the circus contribute to this antithetical hijacking of the lexicon and fundamental philosophy by throwing it around so arbitrarily in their daily red/blue dick waving contests the way that they so consistently do.
