He got 217 Democratic votes, while McCarthy only got 203 votes. This charade, now into the 8th vote, should be ended immediately, and Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) should be elected Speaker of the House of Representatives.

Because one needs a majority of the votes, not just a plurality. He got 217 Democratic votes, while McCarthy only got 203 votes. This charade, now into the 8th vote, should be ended immediately, and Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) should be elected Speaker of the House of Representatives.

Well, it is odanny after all.Because one needs a majority of the votes, not just a plurality.
Damn but you’re slow.
You spout names to Republicans. And yet you cannot recognize flim flam men. Jeffries is just that. We have seen this over and over for many decades. We are spent out and the ghettos are still here. We all make excuses. He got 217 Democratic votes, while McCarthy only got 203 votes. This charade, now into the 8th vote, should be ended immediately, and Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) should be elected Speaker of the House of Representatives.
218 is required when a full House votes. He got 217 Democratic votes, while McCarthy only got 203 votes. This charade, now into the 8th vote, should be ended immediately, and Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) should be elected Speaker of the House of Representatives.
Because Dems lost the House. Only way Jeffries can be speaker is by stealing it. But Dems are good at that.He got 217 Democratic votes, while McCarthy only got 203 votes. This charade, now into the 8th vote, should be ended immediately, and Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) should be elected Speaker of the House of Representatives.
Speaker has nothing to do with the majority. Anyone can be speaker. They don’t even need to be a member. They just need the votes.Because Dems lost the House. Only way Jeffries can be speaker is by stealing it. But Dems are good at that.
Democrats hold 212 seats. Jeffries has gotten 212 on each vote. Democrats are a unified bloc. There would have to be at least 6 Republicans voting for Jeffries and then there would have to be some SERIOUS power sharing going on....which we all know won't happen. He got 217 Democratic votes, while McCarthy only got 203 votes. This charade, now into the 8th vote, should be ended immediately, and Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) should be elected Speaker of the House of Representatives.
There is no such thing as "barely winning".Remember folks, Republicans barely eeked away winning the House.
They scraped by their teeth.
This is after predicting something called a "Red Wave"
And this is what they do w/their inkling of power.
What a cluster fudge. America won't forget.
And the Democrats better not allow America to forget.

Disagreement is part of Democracy. My guess is that like the W.H, this is what the GOP want. It would be easy for McCarthy to meet their demands and drive popular policies, but they'd prefer to be lead than to lead I believe.
Foreshadowing of the future for the West as a whole perhaps?
Any Republican that sides with the Democrats for this might as well get their resume ready for next year, because they'll be replaced in the primaries like *snap* that.Democrats hold 212 seats. Jeffries has gotten 212 on each vote. Democrats are a unified bloc. There would have to be at least 6 Republicans voting for Jeffries and then there would have to be some SERIOUS power sharing going on....which we all know won't happen.
218 is the magic number...for anyone.![]()
Exactly. Their political careers would be over. Same goes for any Democrat that votes for McCarthy..not necessarily from their constituents, but the party.Any Republican that sides with the Democrats for this might as well get their resume ready for next year, because they'll be replaced in the primaries like *snap* that.
I can, however, see a few D's vote for McCarthy, to prevent the far-right from getting any more concessions. Then, of course, McCarthy will get vilified for working with the Hated Dems, but give him a few more vote failures and he may just be okay with risking that.
