Why don't liberal intellectuals dream big like the technocrats of the 1960s?

Instant noodles to stop world hunger in the age of "Climate Crisis"?

Why not dream bigger?

American society used to dream of a future where any type of food was available to everyone with the press of a button.

That was the Jetsons and Star Trek future!

Why not dream of using "Indoor Farming" to increase the amount of fruits and vegetables in the world?

NASA Research Launches a New Generation of Indoor Farming - NASA

And wholeheartedly supporting any research into power production that that vision of the future would require?

Bill Gates is breaking ground on a nuclear power plant in Wyoming

Helium-3 mining on the lunar surface

Fission Surface Power - NASA

Space-based solar power: seeking ideas to make it a reality

Why not dream of a future with lab grown chicken that has no hormones or antibiotics?

A future with lab grown fish without mercury?

And why stop there?

How about....

Moon bases!

Mars bases and cities!

Asteroid mining!

O'Neill Cylinders!

Conquering the solar system!

Amazing things have been accomplished these past several years!

NASA’s Solid-State Battery Research Exceeds Initial Goals, Draws Interest - NASA

How close are we to solid state batteries for electric vehicles?

mRNA cancer vaccine shows protection at 5-year follow-up, Moderna and Merck say

If we can accomplish things like that then a sci fi future is achievable!

Should academics start supporting the futurist vision of humanity?

Aren't there supposed to be our best and brightest?

We can choose to be mired in our problems!

Or we can aim for the stars!

Because the first trillionaire is flying shit into space instead of feeding hungry children?

I'm all for advancements and find them absolutely necessary as the population of the world increases. However, I am of the age that I remember the flavors of fresh fruit and vegetables. I think the 'advancements' made in that regard have been detrimental to the quality of the food. Tomatoes and cantaloupe are two that come readily to mind. The last time I had a tomato that tasted like a tomato and not just red colored water was in the early 90s and that tomato came from the Netherlands. Cantaloupe is much the same--the musk melon smell does not exist anymore and the flavor is gone as well. Why does advancement have to come at the expense of the consumer.

1960-US 92% white
2026-US 58% white.

Do you understand how many low-IQ shitskins we have imported over the past 65 years?
Do you understand the educational and social degradation that has taken place at the K-12 level?
The insane 'dumbing down' that has had to occur to create an economy that they could function in?
Not to mention the implosion in birthrates, marriage rates, the global drop in IQ, and testosterone.
The explosion in regulation and restriction of movement, thought, and speech?
Unless of course, mass migration is to further displace, destroy, and enslave higher IQ populations.

These times are repressive, depressive, dysgenic, and dystopian.

AFTER the great wars, after the great upheavals, after billions are culled, AFTER the fires quiet and the mass starvation ends, and people grow tired of murdering each other by the continent load, maybe, they will begin to cherish higher ideals and higher thought.

Yeah great point... like bread that will last weeks in a cabinet... also most produce is harvested early for transport... and it limits its quality for taste and color...
I try and shop for food at farmers markets where a tomato tastes like a tomato... and with tomatoes they are best grown in volcanic soil... there is an area on the central coast of CA near Los Osos where the soil is nutrient dense and the best tomatoes are grown there...
I have a vacation home near there and love going to get tomatoes at the farmers market...

Tomatoes—especially celebrated plum varieties like San Marzano and Piennolo—thrive in the nutrient-dense volcanic ash of Mount Vesuvius in Italy. The unique terroir imparts a signature sweet, low-acid flavor prized globally for sauces

Growing up, I relished nothing more than a simple, mayo and sliced tomato sandwich. The tomatoes were so good you could smell them across a room--what I can only describe as a 'fuzzy' smell and they always tasted phenomenal. I understand what you are saying about saucing and cooking tomatoes and agree San Marzanos are really good but they aren't the slicing tomatoes that I miss.

The farm in Los Osos has all different varieties...
slicers... heirloom varieties... and heirloom cherry tomatoes which are like candy...
My grandpa made tomato sandwiches for us in the summer with a pinch of salt and real mayonnaise...
And a hunk of watermelon on the side....

CA has the climate to grow about anything. I grew some early girls in the backyard in the central valley in the late 80s and early 90s that still had that flavor. I am sure it is a combination of the nutrients in the soil, soil and ambient temps and light. I sure miss them though.

Because the Democrats of today have the ideology of the radical communists of the 1960’s.

They aren’t the same.

Instant noodles to stop world hunger in the age of "Climate Crisis"?
Yup, over time they'll certainly reduce the population.

A steady diet of ramen noodles can lead to increased risk of cardiometabolic syndrome, heart disease, and diabetes, particularly when consumed two or more times a week. This is due to their high sodium content and low nutritional value, which can disrupt electrolyte balance and lead to health issues over time.

If you could incorporate all of that into a furry cosplay first person shooter game, you might have a chance of reaching on of those morons.

The 1950's "World of the Future" was built on the past ... massive infrastructures, societal conformity, big works, and a common goal ...

... but the availability of cheap, readily available data devices ... starting with PCs and culminating with smart phones ... took the focus off the group and gave future technology to the individual.

We don't need to be a nation (or world) putting a few, select, individuals on The Moon or Mars when every one of us could virtually visit any planet in The Universe from the comfort of our mom's basement.

For 99.99999% of humans given the choice between watching a moon landing on a black-and-white TV or fighting aliens on a distant planet on an X-Box in 4K, the choice is obvious.

The reality of a common vision lost to the virtual reality of a world the individual can control.
