Most national polls are done professionally, and can be trusted, but then those are the popularity polls, which technically mean nothing.
The electoral results are what matter, but many of the state polls are NOT done very well, which is what f*ed up Hillary, since Pennsylvania, Wisconsin & Michigan were so close. Here is a website that keeps track of the electoral numbers based on state polls - for what it's worth:

I do not even know if you can have a honest discussion about them. They just feed the rabble and give them talking points. Experts can probably discuss it and understand the nuisances with methods used and the level of bias The error rate is interesting. If your poll predict the winner with a margin of error of 2 percent and the winner wins by 5 or 6 percent then the the poll was not accurate but it did predict the correct winner. It is also the same if the predicted loser does loses beyond the error margin. The poll is generally deemed inaccurate.

Polls are judged by their error rates and the ones that are consistent are generally the better polls.. Yet the general public will buy into a poll based upon what is predicted with your candidate.

Personally they just need to get rid of them. Keep the mystery going until the end. Polls just make people happy or its fake news.. Still b;y determining the prior margins of error of the usual suspects and how they did in previous polls with staying within the margin of errors then you can weed out the bad ones and focus on the better ones.
