So you see a few more white hairs and wrinkles

What is the layman’s answer as many here are science illiterate

All stems from the foundation of thermodynamics around 200 years ago
The law of physics clearly define any closed system as one where entropy inc

It’s basically takes places in the engine of your cells or the mitochondria

It’s the accumulation of genetic errors or mutations
The more you get the older you are

As you get more mutations and genetic errors because of mistakes in cell replication and division as the dna code gets incorrectly coded

However , with advances in nanotechnology, gene editing this can be stopped next century
Scientist know which genes cause aging
They know about the mitochondria

Soon we will be able to repair bad cells and edit these genes and you may stay 30 for 30 yrs

Telomeres. In most multicellular eukaryotic organisms, there is a limit to how many generations of cells can reproduce via mitosis. With each generation, the chromosomes become shorter. Telomeres are basically neutral material at the ends of the chromosomes, and with each generation of mitosis, they get shorter, and when they are used up, subsequent generations lose active genes, and genetic defects start creeping in because of the missing DNA.

I always thought it was interesting in the bible in the OT it says we only live to around a 120 years old now and that's around the limit today

Weird and why did God shorten our age span? (Noah for example was 500 years old when his sons were born)

It's in our thoughts. If we think we are going to die at 90 as most do, it will be then. OT they lived longer, knew it and thought it. Look at turtles, trees. They don't think like we do, programming themselves and live till something kills them. Or somethin.

And the LORD said, “My Spirit will not remain with mankind forever, because they are corrupt. Their days will be 120 years.”
