This is a really interesting look at the geography surrounding the Hormuz area, and why it would be so difficult to control that area.

This guy is a digital mapping specialist. A few points he makes:
- There's 500 miles of rough terrain in Iran along the Gulf, making it easy for them to hide buildings, bunkers, drones & missle launchers to attack anyone who threatens them
- Iran is the entire northern boundary of the Gulf, which is why insurance companies have said "no thanks" to financing ships
- Land invasions would likely have to come from the West, Iraq or Kuwait, who wouldn't be thrilled with Iran bombing their infrastructure in response
- Kharg Island is up in the northwestern area of the Gulf and not easy to get to, let alone having to supply/support military for a length of time
- Any neighboring country that assists us would have their gas fields blown up, and that is very unlikely
