Why can't you believe in democracy and liberalism at the same time?

...because democracy is about rule by the people while liberalism is about rule by the government.

I don't even know where to begin with how asinine this is. The government is the people. We elected the government. Conservatives want rule by oligarchy. Allowing the 1% to buy elections is not democracy.

Eddy is a strange sort of tainted fruit.

If we followed his economic theories, the poverty rate in the world would jump 10% in a year.

...because democracy is about rule by the people while liberalism is about rule by the government.
Democracy is Mob Rule. Since I am a Liberal, like the Founders, I don't believe in that either.

"In an article, Are We a Republic or a Democracy, Professor Walter E. Williams of George Mason University, explains how our Founders strove to create a Republic instead of a Democracy, and why. The following are some excerpts:

James Madison, Federalist Paper No. 10:

In a pure democracy, "there is nothing to check the inducement to sacrifice the weaker party or the obnoxious individual."

At the 1787 Constitutional Convention, Edmund Randolph said, "... that in tracing these evils to their origin every man had found it in the turbulence and follies of democracy."

John Adams said, "Remember, democracy never lasts long. It soon wastes, exhausts, and murders itself. There was never a democracy yet that did not commit suicide."

Why Our Founders Feared a Democracy

...because democracy is about rule by the people while liberalism is about rule by the government.

And because American liberalism denies and suppresses liberty and choice while claiming to support them. Liberalism says to Americans:

* You want to decide whether or not to insure your own body without being financially punished, as you've been able to do for over 200 years? Too bad. The government has now decided otherwise.

* You want to be able to work without being forced to join a union, without being forced to pay union dues, and to have the ability to negotiate directly with the employer for your salary and benefits? Very tough luck.

* You want to be able to exercise the long-standing, sacred American tradition of the secret ballot when it comes to voting on whether or not to unionize? Sorry, but that time-honored American principle must give way to the labor unions' need for more members.

* You want to be able to own a gun for self-defense in the event of an attempted robbery or assault in your home? That's really too bad, because the only valid reason to own a gun is for sporting purposes.

* You want the Internet to remain under private control so that the marvelous innovation and advancement that we've seen in web technology can continue? Nope, the Internet is now a "public utility" and the government must of course control it as it sees fit. We can't have such a huge enterprise and communication tool operating outside of the government's control.

* You want to be able to go to court to keep the city or county from taking your home via eminent domain, even though the city/county just wants to zone your land for a mall or a big store and not for a public road or a public utility? Too bad.

* You think that if you're a Christian businessman that you should not be forced to service a gay ceremony as long as there are other vendors who are willing to service the ceremony? Too bad, so sad, but that gay couple's admittedly odd desire to force you to service their wedding when they could easily just get other vendors trumps your constitutional rights of freedom of religion, freedom of speech, freedom of association, and right of private property.

* You think unborn children should be protected from elective abortions, i.e., abortions that are *not* done because of rape, incest, or endangerment? No, our version of choice is that a woman should get to choose to kill her baby if the baby just doesn't fit into her life plans at the moment. BUT, we do believe that it's a moral outrage for the state to execute vicious murderers who were tried and found guilty by a jury of their peers!

Etc., etc., etc.

Conservatives want rule by oligarchy. .

why would you say that when it is liberals who always want more and more power concentrated in Washington and conservatives who want the oppposite?

Do you understand?

Because Mob Rule doesn't protect Liberty, for anyone but the mob. Get a ******* education.

dear, 1) democracy is not mob rule if only the elite vote and 2) it does protect liberty if the elite vote for liberty.

Take it up with the Founders of this nation, who hated Democracy like I do.

too stupid of course. if they hated democracy they would not have provided for it in the Constitution, voted at the Constitutional Convention to approve the Constitution, or submitted it the states for democratic radification.

See why we are positive a liberal will be slow?

Eddy truly does not know American history. That's what makes his publications such a giggle.
