I could never really count myself among that crowd.

When I worked for the state we got the same thing the convicts got:

A bag of hard candy, a bag of nuts, two oranges, and Merry Christmas on our pay stub.

DuPont threw us a really nice catered dinner and a $50 gift card sometimes but due to the loons in HR it varied.

One year they gave us a gallon paint can full of some kick ass Christmas cookies. People bitched but I liked it. I found out where they got them and bought baked goods from them for years till they went out of business.

The funny one was when they gave everyone a darn Poinsettia. We took them and piled them neatly around the DuPont sign at the plant entrance......Looked pretty festive.....They left it up till New Years. ;)

I never got a Xmas bonus in 29 years, my labor union and my employer would negotiate 6 year contracts, that membership would vote on, and everything we ever received from my employer was contractual.

We would receive a free Xmas dinner every year (Thanksgiving they would give everyone a free Butterball frozen turkey) and they would set up a portion of the building for us all to go get served our dinner, all the bigwigs would wear their serving apron and act real nice as we came thru the line to have our plate filled.

It all felt a bit contrived and artificial, but the food was generally pretty decent.
 
One time in my career (45+ years) I got an annual bonus, timed to coincide with Christmas. I was part of management at the time and lobbied for bonuses to be performance-based but was shot down. The parent company had provided a fixed amount for bonuses and it ended up being divided equally among all employees (less than 50). It was about a thousand dollars.

My wife worked for more than 40 years for a large bank, and in the last three years became eligible for an "executive" bonus, which was enough to buy a nice new car even after taxes - not that we did that. That was nice.
 
We get a gainshare for meeting specific goals and it comes in March.

A christmas bonus is nice, but not required.

Sounds like what they did for the Daniels Co. contract help when I worked at Dupont.

They got paid really well but they only got two paid holidays a year. Thanksgiving and Christmas.

I was employed by the same company as the OP. A few months ago I was notified I was a part of a lawsuit claiming they screwed us out of part of our retirement. I guess it was filed in 2021 but I had no idea until this year.

I was notified last week that the company lost. The settlement is supposed to be more than the typical coupon for a discount or $37.

The lawyers were granted a seperate $9 million so their share doesn't come from ours. I'll decide if I'm satisfied after getting the full info in a few days.

I once started a new job either a week before Christmas or at the start of December or something like that, either way, I had only been there a week or two when the president of the company handed out turkeys out of his trunk for Christmas for all of the employees.

I got a 26 pound turkey. I think it was the bosses, or at least intended for him that I took as my own before he could say otherwise, or at least what I suspect, reflecting back on the event long after the fact.

I've not heard of that (if you mean DuPont).

I'd just love to know what any lawyer can do (or has to do) just to answer the legality of a contract that can possibly be worth 9 million dollars?

What, did they need 900 lawyers working 11 years to the exclusion of all else to waddle through our convoluted justice system just to decide what's what in a simple contract?

Lawsuit took 4 years.

I'm sure many lawyers were involved and costs were quite high.

Settlements are also designed to be a deterrent for future wrong.
 

Interesting, when I first started working there was labor strife, we worked without a contract for 4 years while the union and the company fought over the details of a new contract (that membership rejected), after a new contract was finally signed the union later sued my employer for 4 years of lost cost of living increases in our wages, including interest, and when it went to court, I gave it almost no chance of success. The judge ruled in our favor.

All of the lost wage increases included overtime, of which I was working 50-60 hours a week in that span, so my settlement check came out to about $20,000. This was in 99-2000. I used that money to jump start my 401K (maxing my yearly contribution in one swoop), which I had been neglecting.

Considering the share price has risen by over 10x since then, that check is still paying dividends.

All those precious metals sitting in my safe gave me quite a bonus over the last few months. Feels like Christmas to me.

Not satisfied. The place I work had their year-end meeting two weeks ago. They made us car pool together and drive 65 miles to a Marriot in Madison, WI where they had the event, in order to get our profit-sharing checks. There were thousands of stupid young people crammed into the Marriot's huge convention auditorium. The food they provided was crappy and the speeches and presentations were boring.

It was snowing like a ***** outside and we had to drive 65 miles back. The profit-sharing check I got was pretty good, but taxes ate up almost half of it.

in the PO the PM would get each office a box or 2 of see's candy.......my bonus was the gratuities my customers would give me in the weeks leading up to Christmas.....
 
Years ago, back when companies threw actual PARTY Christmas parties, not boring speeches and cheering the company rather than the holiday - sooo much fun. Real parties, with bands - open bar and the much anticipated "Money Tree" where throughout the party envelopes of money were all over a large Christmas tree, and they would call names between songs etc. 100s of envelopes were given away, Ranging from $500 - $100.
 
In 38 years I received lots of small Christmas bonuses ranging from turkey certificates to a hundred bucks. Hey better than a lump of coal! My daughter works for a small tech company and just got a $1000 performance/Christmas bonus.
 
I got a very nice christmas bonus this year. Higher than last year.
