I have no doubt that the top people in the party know that, but I'd be shocked if a coherent plan existed. The only way they can follow through on what has been started is to maintain a very heavy hand and a very solid grip on our political/electoral processes.

Two years is an eternity in politics.

Who says Vance is unsound? He will still have Steve Miller and Suzie to rely on, as well as other Republican stalwarts.

I don't think that Vance or anyone will satisfy the MAGA base like Trump can. Sure, they'll do all they can to attack the Dems, but they don't share his incredibly juvenile, aggressive temperament. The closest person to him in that department is Stephen Miller, and he's not electable.

That said, I surely don't know. One thing I've learned over these last ten years is that America is not what I thought it was.
