At a town hall, in Alabama, bedrock, hardcore Trump country, the question of "who pays the tariffs" was asked of the Republican house member conducting the town hall. He could not answer the question, which was repeated over and over by the crowd to the extent that the congressman walked out of the town hall.

It is looking that no matter how much Trump and his Republican state representatives try to gerrymander their districts, Trump and his crowd are facing a slaughter at the mid terms, and he is going to take it in the shorts worse than he did in 2018.

And that's a great big Bigly!!!

Me thinks that the OP is gonna be very disappointed.

I don't know how people in the GQP are not insulted. Maybe they still somehow don't know who pays the tariffs.

The question was actually wrong. It's the importer, the American business, that pays the tariff, not the exporter or the consumer directly. Then it's up to the American business to deal with the increased costs, and the consumer may or may not feel it. The longer the supply chain, the higher the chance that the consumer will notice a difference, due to the domino effect.

Either way, the financial burden is on the American business, and the GQP politicians don't have the balls to say it because they're under threat.

But it's a damn shame that the GQP has to play these games. And as always, the flock just plays the same game.

Manufacturers and sellers pay the tariffs, China devalued its currency to offset the tariffs. Manufacturers must sell or go broke. Consumers dont have to buy which gives them free market leverage. Prices come down as inventories build.

Notice inflation is under control and many prices have come down. Energy is down waged are up higher than inflation. Taxes have been cut making the middle class far better off then under Bidens massive debt based spending and 9.1% inflation and doubled gas costs.

Tariffs are on track to bring in 1 trillion a year. The deficit is1.6 trillion. Thats paid off in less than 2 years right before the midterms. Democrats opposed every economic policy by Trump. Good luck running on that.

Astroglide is a democrat so math is beyond him.
Usually when a cost increase is incurred, the manufacturer has to increase the cost of their goods to recoup the expense. If foreign imports do this, they lose undercutting cost leverage on domestic production making domestic production more cost-effective. That expands the domestic economy.

Only consumers have leverage by not buying and forcing down prices. You are correct and thats why manufacturers will come here. The other incentive is low cost reliable fossil fuel energy and nuclear power. Renewables can meet the demand of AI.

Buy American or from America friendly countries and pay 0 tariffs.

Friends don't put tariffs on friends.

Seeing as many trumples think Joe Biden was out to lunch during part of his presidency, what would they say if he declared something like trump did. Namely, that ending many of his tariffs would destroy the US. They'd say he had lost his mind...... as trump has.

Biden has dementia and it was clear before he was elected. He was never able to run the country. He has vascular dementia from his AFIB and stroke. He also has Parkinsons Disease which also causes dementia. He was never completely under control and managed to screw up everything he touched
