Who is the biggest mass murderer in human history?

I think maybe it was Mao.

But I think maybe the most concerning aspect of Mao is not just the deaths he personally oversaw, it is the fact that today Mao is considered a hero in his own country, and in the US the Left adores him. Thus, the ideology that murdered hundreds of millions is alive and well in the world, as his legacy continues to this day.

Do you always lie so much? Moa is not a name dropped by the left only by drunk MAGATs showing their echo chamber intelegencia white trash oration.
I do believe that Genghis Khan murdered the most preindustrial.

Mohammed.
Back when the population of the planet was less, there were far less folks to kill.

But even in that instance, even if you calculated it in a percentage of the global population, the clear winner has always been;

Different side of the same coin.

I mean, what do you think Nazi meant? It meant Nationalist Socialist, or National Socialist German Workers' Party.
there was nothing socialist about the NAZI party, they killed thousands of Socialists and put more in Camps, they included the word Socialist in the name to attract members from the Workers who were under the illusion there was something Socialist about the party.

Mao Zedong, followed by Stalin.
We should not give Mao too much credit here. There reason he was able to murder so many is because there are so many people to murder. Mao is just another cookie cutter despot that was drawn to Leftism because it helped empower him.

In fact, go to China today and with the help of Left-wing propaganda, the majority of the Chinese population will probably regard him as a hero along with most Leftists in the US and around the world. But there was nothing really special about him.

Interesting question. As for Excalibur's response being Mohammed, the number of people he killed will never be completely known, but the killings in the name of his religion make the others pale in comparison.
One thing that can be a factor in man's inhumanity to man is ideology.
Nazi Party: National Socialist German Workers Party.
Soviet Union: Marxist/Socialist political ideology.
China under Mao Zedong. Marxist/Socialist ideology.
North Korea: Marxist/Socialist ideology.
Laos: Pol Pot. Marxist/Socialist ideology.
Islam: Theocracy. Specifically Islamic ideology.
That's not to let other types of governments off the hook.
United States: Approximately 12 million indigenous people were killed in the forming of the nation.
If we look at DNA, the Bonobo Chimpanzee is closest to our DNA and is a vicious tribal ape and kills outside interloping Chimpanzees. We come by our behavior naturally. We are, at the very basic level, tribal in nature.
Theocratic and Marxist/Socialist ideologies contribute to an us versus them mentality, especially with the Abrahamic religions.
a nice list!

Then we had the lunatic King Leopold of Belgium who killed up to 15million Congolese a big part of the population in order to steal their stuff, European Colonialism is probably responsible for the largest death count ever, there are still Statues of Leopold the Butcher in Belgium today.
