Whitney Houston

One of the greatest female singers of all time.

pffffffffffft

The woman she stole the OP song from blows her out of the water.

Then there's...

Kate Smith
Beverly Sills
Cass Elliot
Doris Day
Ella Fitzgerald
Lena Horne
Billie Holliday
Judy Garland
Karen Carpenter
Carole King
Carly Simon
The B-52s duo of Cindy Wilson and Kate Pierson
Ann & Nancy Wilson
Dolores O'Riordan

All of whom outclassed that overrated screecher by miles.

I liked your inclusion of the B-52 girls.
You might want to also add Barbara Streisand.

Whitney was a powerhouse on the rise. Real potential. But then she got wrapped up with Bobby Brown and drugs and that was that.

Her upper range was not a voice but a bird screech....No smoky resonance to her low end, like Amy Winehouse or Sade.

Though I'll admit she wasn't outright horrid, she was mediocre corporate creation....Grossly overrated.

No it wasn't.

Well, every voice has its strengths, then again, she was only 48 when she died and who can say how her voice would have gone in the previous ten years had she not gotten wrapped up with Brown.

Not overrated, just popular. Though I admit that she is not in my top ten female vocalists. She needed coaching, development. She was a vulnerable girl and her life was ruined by narcotics.

Whitney was not only a great singer but also a dazzlingly beautiful woman. Her life clearly demonstrates the danger of addictive drugs.

Great singer, but wasted a lot on pop. I realize these artists have to pay the bills, but come on. Same thing with Leann Rimes.

Dolly Parton wrote I Will Always Love You. Dolly sang it as a song of sorrow, while Whitney Houston sings it as a song of triumph. Again, Whitney Houston was a great singer, but I think she missed the interpretation on that one.
