Doubtful. More than likely, the shooter was a coward, like most of these mass murderers. That is why he chose a school as his target. The coach, OTOH, put himself in front of the shooter to save students lives. I'm sure he would have done well if he had a gun to protect himself. Better than someone who would cower outside, afraid to go in. When you are fighting for your life and the lives of those you care about, you would be surprised at what you can do. Not to mention, a lot of teachers do in fact have training and a lot of them are former military.

School cop resigns after shooting at Stoneman Douglas High School

Peterson, 54, has been a school resource officer at Stoneman Douglas since 2009. He began working for the sheriff’s office in 1985. His annual salary in 2016 was $75,673.72, according to sheriff’s office records.

Officials, including Broward Sheriff Scott Israel, have been asked about where Peterson was at the time of the shooting.

“Deputy Peterson was on campus,” Israel said at a new conference Wednesday. “He was armed. And as our command staff moves forward on this investigation, the response and actions of Deputy Peterson will be looked at and scrutinized, as will everyone’s.”

Asked whether Peterson fired his gun, Israel said, “He did not.”

The Sheriff stated he has the video of the officer arriving at the building but didn't go in. He said he would not release the video.

I saw the sheriff with Dana Loesch at the CNN town hall meeting. All the sheriff did was avoid answering the questions about the 39 times they were called to this murderers house and they did nothing, and out of the other side of his mouth call for more gun control and for the brainwashed kids to vote for democrats.

It's ironic that the radical left, that usually falls all over itself to criticize the actions of local Police, is quiet in cases of mass shootings. As I recall the local Police failed to enter the building even when the Columbine shooters were active. Military Police were unarmed at Ft. Hood and had to call 9-11 to take the jihad Major down. Strangely enough the female local Police Officer who finally took Hasan Nadal down should have been a national hero but the mainstream media didn't want to talk about it. The local Blacksburg Va. Officers were calmly interviewing witnesses to the Va. Tech murder spree while he was still killing people on campus. Capital Police did the best job of taking down James Hodgkinson, the baseball shooter, but the MSM didn't want to talk about that either. Everything was wrong about Stephen Paddock including the fact that Vegas Swat couldn't be located so the door was apparently breached by K-9 officers. After a CBS executive posted a tweet that she had no sympathy for the 51 victims who were "just yokel Trump supporters" neither did the MSM and the entire case was strangely forgotten.

You have one detail that is incorrect. The MPs were armed, but no one else outside the base's civilian police department was armed. The victims were not allowed to carry weapons on base except while training. That has not changed as far as I know.

Both of my daughter's have lived on Fort Hood. I have a great deal of experience with their offices through getting my vehicle passes and moving household goods on and off post. My oldest daughter lived there during the shooting and had to contact me to let me know my son-in-law was NOT one of the victims.

Oh, you forgot to mention how the MSM lauded the fact that the female cop who took down Scalise's shooter was a lesbian. The male cop was barely mentioned because he was a heterosexual.

It did not as far as I know. I deal with Fort Hood and Fort Knox and neither have made any changes of which I am aware.

Just because one highly paid guard got cold feet and did not do his job, does not at all mean others could not have successfully done the job right.
One failure does not invalidate a whole theory.

Although it would help to understand what you might have meant if you said more.
That was very short. It did not explain what you have against the "good guy with a gun" theory.
The only time the "good guy with a gun" theory could be criticized is if the good guy accidentally added to the fatalities with bad shooting or something like that.
Failing to do a job that could easily have been done, does not at all invalidate the job or the theory.
