I’m a classic movie fan and I’m wondering where do you go to find classic movies? To me a classic movie is a film that is considered to be of lasting worth or to have a timeless quality. It is not necessarily a very old movie but to has to be old enough that audiences of various time periods will see it as a quality production that transcends age. In general, I believes movies should be at least 25 years old to be considered a classic. That would be movies prior to 2000.
Here are sources I have used. Have you found others sources?
TCM (Turner Classic Movies) is the best I have found. The live channel is available on cable, satellite TV, as well as various services that provide streaming of cable channels on the Internet which include DirectTV (streaming), Hulu and Youtube subscription services.
TCM offers the TCM app to stream the live channel as well as a fairly good selection of classic movies for streaming from their vast library. This app is available on Android and IOS devices, and several others.
Prime has a surprising number of classic movies but they can be difficult to find if you don’t have the name of the movie.
Youtube without a subscription has a lot of old movies that are no longer protected by copywrite. They are free but the picture quality and sound is not always that good.
HBO has a good selection of TCM movies for streaming but they don’t offer live TCM for streaming.
Parmount+ has a limited offering
Britbox has some find British productions
Masterpiece offers a number of classics that are based on literary classics.
Netlfix, in my opinion has a very poor offering of classic movies. They have no silent movies nor any movies from the 30's. I found only 2 movies from the 40’s, none from the 50’s, 3 from the 60’s, and about a dozen or less from the 70’s. This is not surprising since 75% of Netflix viewers are age 18 to to 34 and most daily viewers are under 24. Also, the audience is over a third foreign with the highest concentration in SE Asia. These demographics typically have little interest in classic movies.
