the recent commercial from Old Navy is set at a children's spelling bee.
she says "the word importance doesn't have numbers in it."

not funny.

the Simpson's joke that was stolen was the episode where Mr. Burns meets his long lost son Larry, played by Rodney Dangerfield.
Burns tries to get him into Yale and the joke was , "Let me put it this way, he spelled Yale with a 6"

the joke is funny because someone who is not familiar with cursive write might think a "Y" looks like a 6.

...it's a fairly high level joke, unlike the ignorant Old Navy rip-off version.

it must relieve a lot of pressure being a writer and simply recycling Simpson's jokes, instead of having to think of something funny.

The Simpsons stopped being funny (and swerved straight to "inane") about 20 years ago.

They abused the context of the joke also, but it's probably written by Sat. Night Live crowd...

When Conan O'Brien was writing...it was funny, but after he left in the early 1990's, it was inane...

In what dimension does the cursive "y" look like the number 6?
