That's the rear deck where they walk Joe before public addresses.

Actually, it's a misnomer for the french word stemming from puppis or poupe I think for raised rear roof.

Well, I think poupe originates from French, but puppis is Latin, I know because of the constellation Puppis in the southern sky, broke up by Lacaille I believe in the 1700s after they broke up Argo Navis into Puppis, Carina and Vela because the original constellation was just so big. I'm something of a celestial cartographer in my spare time.
