Obamacare is the worst. It was said to save us $2500 a year, instead it took healthcare away from working Americans. Before Obamacare you paid for healthcare and went to the doctors for free. After Obamacare you pay for healthcare and then pay for treatment up to the $10,000 deductible!! WTF? That's paying twice!
They need to get back to healthcare means no deductible.
When I worked almost 20 years ago now (retired young) for a corporation, my portion of my Insurance was $8 every pay period, two a month.... so $16 a month, the Insurance deductible was $100/$200 for whole family , and the Insurance covered 80% of the bill. Prescriptions were $10, $5 if generic... and there was not a doctor around that did not accept the insurance policy.
After I retired, I had to go on my Husband's health Insurance policy that he got through his work.... His was only around $39 a month for his share, with pretty much the same coverage as mine, for him alone, but when I was added to it, it became a family plan and was around $100 a month....
in less than 5 years later, the fam yrly deductible was $1000, $500 each, and the policy was $300 a month, and it only covered 75% of the Bill after the deductible....
Then the deductible went up to $1000 each/ $2000 a family, and the coverage went down to 70%.... Prescripts were $20 and $10 for generic
This was ALL before ObamaCare was passed... prices were rising astronomically....
I agree with you on the deductibles now....they are ridiculously high!
You can pay more a month with a more expensive monthly premium and have lower deductibles and out of pocket expenses... if the company you work for has different level plans to choose from.... And some policies or most I believe, cover prescriptions immediately, and do not have to coe out of your deductible
but sheesh, it is a spin of the money wheel on which one is actually better for the two of you....
Every year I struggle on what to choose, policy wise.... and I always misjudge...
like I chose a plan that I thought was good for us, because neither of us had any prescriptions or monthly meds to take, with a $30 copay for prescriptions... then through the year, the hubby had one daily med to take and I was told I had to take 2 different meds.... so the plan I thought I would be saving money on in a slightly lower premium, ended up costing us an additional $90 a month for the prescription costs.
Yes, health care costs are a real issue, especially the deductibles and out of pocket expenses...
But KNOW that the larger deductibles and out of pocket expense was actually a Republican notion that the Dems picked up from them and their Republican health care plan they were proposing when Hillary was trying to get her health plan passed when Bill was President....
SUPPOSEDLY having high deductibles and out of pocket expenses on the individual, would give incentives for individuals not over using their health insurance, or basically putting pressure on the medical providers to not raise their prices or keep them lower... because the policy holder had a stake in the costs of medical care with such high out of pocket expenses....
this experiment of trying to ENGINEER a free market with these high deductibles, fails to do such, imho
