what is the best free search engine

I use Duck Duck Go and really like it.
I also like and use DuckDuckGo - Protection. Privacy. Peace of mind.
as it provide same or better search capabilities, along with an automatic or on demand search assistant with short answers, including reference link to where information found, backing up the short answer, plus it has on demand access to an Artificial Intelligence offering more in depth analysis of your search argument. Though it is important to note, the AI like all other AI offerings on the internet does not offer reference links to how it created the "more in-depth" answer to your search argument.
Furthermore, DuckDuckGo helps protect your privacy, by not supplying your search, search history or links explored to 3rd party advertisers, so you are not followed around the internet by advertisers on your computer, phone, email, or other digital devices.

Can you elaborate? What did it say?
I dont recall any of the questions I asked

So I tried a couple of sample questions a few minutes ago and the AI replies were neutral so I may be misremembering

I use the Duck all the time for technical questions because it same me time

This is true.......but something to keep in mind is that any site you go to DOES allow that info to 3rd parties. You can search all you want annonomously, but once you click a site, that site hangs you out on the public highway like a neon sign

But I also use the Duck, but have also found the AI portion to be a liar. I've asked the same question but worded differently and have gotten back different answers, but that is AI in general not just the Duck version

Its hit or miss

As I posted already my impression at times is ok but other times its not

So do I

But the AI feature has a lib bias

Its ok for technical questions but not political issues
I use Brave. It is built on chrome, includes a tor emulator and a crypto wallet plus it's own search engine without the spyware and even then I clear all data every time I close my browser. I allow the ai to remember the past because it's convenient though. ai search is awesome.

It does not hand out, on mine, nor does it follow me around, offering advertisements on the internet, nor to my email. But, possibly this could be linked the the fact, my chosen browser is not Google, a known intrusive collector and supplier to 3rd party advertisers and a profit center for Google. I do not use Google, nor Microsoft offerings for my internet browsing, due to intrusive breaches of privacy. Instead I use Download the fastest Firefox ever for safer browsing. Using Firefox as browser with DuckDuckGo as dedicated search engine pretty well insulates me from 3rd parties following me around, ever. I get none of that. I don't even get 3rd party advertisers on this board. Even to get pictures associated with articles on front pages of News agitator sites such as Drudge report or MemeOrandum, I have to click to temporarily discontinue Enhanced Tracking Protections selected by me in Firefox setup screen.
The protection from 3rd party script (often embedded in pictures (including zero click auto executing files) using this browse and search engine in concert, I have found to be fairly complete.

I don't think that's what I said..........any searches are private yes, but once you click on a site, that site will grab your info to be shared.

Example......you're looking for a new set of tires for your truck and you click on Les Swab........Les Swab will now share/sell whatever info they can get from your visit to other advertisers or the Chinese or hackers or or or.

IDK what info they can get, other than your IP address, and what you clicked on in their site......but that's still enough for the internet to cater to your interests based on the sites you visit. Like I said before.......you can search all you want in private, but once you visit a site, that site now has you in their 'sights'

If they are, they are not following me, nor able to post further, marketing to future websites, nor my email, nor even determine the city, state or country for certain, I am located in, as I also use Nord VPN when browsing. Altogether, I am pretty well insulated while still having total access.

I downloaded the Brave search engine.....thanks for the info.

I've only used Startpage.com for years.

You can click on any web site with their search engine without it hanging you out there like that. I never use the feature, though, because I really just don't care about the trivial data some largely computer illiterate hall monitor likely doesn't even know how or even have the permissions to use for anything nefarious anyway.

I wouldn't touch Duck Duck Go with a ten foot pole.

They have a lot of people fooled into believing they aren't being bought and sold.

Startpage has a pretty good email platform as well, called StartMail.

You have to pay for it, of course, but you get what you pay for, like anything else.

I flip between multiple search engines to find what I am looking for. I have several plugged into my search bar, and toggle between them.

These are the ones that are currently in use;
