Its been a year since he was foiled in his attempt to whack President Trump and change the US election of 2024.

It looks like they don't even want to give him the proper penalty of capital punishment that precedent demands. The 1757 case against Robert-Francois Damiens makes the penalty for such treason obvious

If he's asking to represent himself, he's obviously going for "not guilty by reason of insanity."

How was the gun aimed directly at him if he wasn't even in the line of sight?

We don't execute people for merely trying to assassinate the President.

As John Hinckley, Squeaky Fromme, and Sarah Jane Moore can all attest, as they are out and free in the world right now.

At most, this guy will get 20 years. Unless he's found mentally ill, in which case he'll got to a mental institution for that same amount of time.

In this case, the charge is High Treason, as Routh and Crooks were attempting to deny the people's will and re-install their leader Sleepy Joe as President.

That's not just attempted murder and high treason, but Literal Insurrection, using the force of arms to force a change in government.

That isn't what happened at all in the cases of the babes who tried to clip Ford.

And John Hinkley was actually let go by an incompetent jury.

There was no 'Assassination Attempt' 47 was supposedly hit with 7.62 NATO round. The 7.62 is high velocity round designed maim or kill. IF the 4-Deferment Draft Dodging had with that kind of round, it would have taken his off.

Okay, guy, now you are just being hysterical. The only traitor I see is Trump.

(I think by the time this guy took his pot-shot, Biden had already withdrawn, but never mind.)

Actually, the Hinkley jury got it right. The man was insane. Still able to buy a gun in this country, but insane.

federal criminal trials don't move quick compared to state court ones. My guess is that the judge will allow him to represent himself but have a shadow lawyer there for him to consult with.

What assassins were executed? Plus, he never got a shot off, so conspiracy is about all you have. Your understanding of the law is kindergarten level at best. Damians was not an American and that was before we even existed. What precedent? Did you flunk out of reading classes in school?

Actually, they did execute Charles Giteau (who assassinated Garfield) and Leon Czolgosz (who assassinated McKinley)

However, merely attempting an assassination has never merited the DP.

John Shrank (who tried to kill Teddy Roosevelt in 1912) spent the rest of his life in a mental hospital.
Oscar Collazo was sentenced to death for attempting to kill Harry Truman, but Truman commuted his death sentence and Carter commuted his jail time.
Arthur Bremer attempted to shoot Nixon and spent 35 years in prison.

Giuseppe Zangara tried to assassinate FDR in 1933 and was executed, but that was only because he managed to kill Mayor Cermak.

A bit absurd, don't you think?

Biden didn't drop out until 21 July. And he wouldn't have dropped out if they had succeeded in whacking Trump.

BTW, Hinkley was NOT legally in possession of a gun in Washington DC where he shot Reagan, showing the complete failure of gun control laws to stop anything

Hinkley walked into a store and had no problem legally buying a gun.

He bought a gun in a Texas Pawn shop for $47.00

He didn't commit the crime in Texas. He walked across the DC border in violation of the Draconian Gun Control.

The fact is the law didn't stop him.
