Zone1 what if we added sturdy toilets, waterdispensaries, and computers with games and internet to police cells and psychiatric isolation cells?

generally speaking, i would agree with that statement.

but it's different when we're talking about police waitingrooms and psychiatric isolationcells.
those people are often innocent of having commited any crime at all, or at least until a judge has sentenced them to a prison that's appropriate for their actual crime.

Police holding areas are supposed to be intimidating....

As for psych wards.. um, shit we probably need MORE of those, given how many stewbums I see on the street who have lost their touch with reality.

try spending a night in one of those, mr know it all.

wrong again. we need more proficient long term, low-security, psych-wards.

Well, you see, I don't commit crimes so I wouldn't have to worry about that.

As for the psych wards... um, no, most of the really psychotic can't be helped and are a danger to themselves and others.

you owe it to the rest of society to worry about that.
and i got picked up by cops once, at night, for sitting on a raised water's end.
they were friendly, but insisted i come with them.
next, they lead me into a police cell at their station.
then they leave me to wait for morning.
it was horrible. triggered my claustrofobia too.

another lie, misinformed opinion, or generalization at least.

oh, we're also going to need waterproof matrasses and breathe-through blankets, so that people who are sensitive to "vibes" (that in my humble opinion can flow from live cameras that are pointed at you) can hide under these blankets and get the life-saving sleep that they need.
you'll also need 'benzo' sleeping aids and a psychiatrist (doctor at least) to administrate these meds to patients.

IT IS ABSOLUTELY DANGEROUS, IN AN INTERNET-VIRAL KIND OF WAY,
FOR THE CAPTORS NOT TO SHOW MERCY AT ALL TIMES TO THEIR CAPTIVES.
the justified-revenge feelings that some may grow during their nuttyness should
not be underestimated.

God, are we raising a generation of sissy boys? They left you alone for ONE NIGHT! GASP.

Nope. This is where liberals are victims of their own stupidity. They said, "Let's get rid of the mental Hospitals because it's unfair to lock people up if they aren't violent. Did you see what they did to poor Jack Nicholson in One Flew Over the Cookoo's Nest?"

So they unleashed thousands of these people on the street, none of them with the capability to take care of themselves.

I remember the change. Happened in the late 70's, when all these stewbums just started showing up in our neighborhood. Mostly congregating around the liquor store so they could self-medicate.

once again : YOU TRY IT.
hardwood benches, concrete floor, no toilet, no water at all, etc.
see my earlier warning about justified-revenge for more.

they need housing, home care, free soft drugs dispensaries with posters that promote organisations like Alcohol Anonymous, a food and energy budget, internet, but guess what? no gaming rig or car. let 'm work for that. final terms are negotiable of course.

it's known as Universal Basic Income (UBI) or Universal High Income (UHI), which is where Musk sees us heading once robots start mass replacing human basic chores workers.

I was in the Army for 11 years. It just doesn't sound that bad.

Musk is a crazy person. I've been hearing the "Robots will replace us all" since the 1960s.

When they put a Stepford Wife on the market, let me know.

oooh "I was in the Army", that just frees you from responsibility eh?
it does not.

YOU TRY IT, then talk again.

looks like it will soon "finally" be a reality.
did you know sci-fi lags only 50 to 100 years behind reality?
flying cars for instance. nearly done as well.

When they put a Stepford Wife on the market, let me know.
why, you need one? :D

Why should I try it? I already encountered worse doing something worthwhile. I was being responsible. INstead of getting into trouble, I was serving my country.
Criminal shitheads deserve to be punished.

Actually, not so much. Here's the thing, Robots need people to maintain them, operate them, etc.

We have more jobs now than we had in the 1950s.

Now, if you are the kind of loser who regularly finds himself in police custody, you probably don't have a place in this brave new world.

why, you need one?
Naw, I'm happily married.

Here's the thing about the Stepford Wives. The original book and the 1970's movie addressed two underlying fears. 1) Feminism would destroy the American Family and 2) We could all be replaced by Robots.

Well, um, we currently live in a world of two-income households and much of the workforce has been transformed by automation. So when they made a "remake" in the 2000's, it was uninteresting, a failed comedy, because the concept just didn't work.

i hope you're not implying that i'm a criminal :)

no need to get insultive again, Joe.
or are you looking for (fr)enemies to have annoying conversations with online?

and i wasn't in police custody for long (all minor offenses that got me briefly shut in the cells that we're addressing in this thread)
once again, i've had claustrofobia and fear of heights since i was a small child.

i honestly think you severely underestimate the speed of technological and engineering prowess that have "governed" Humanity since the days of getting into sword fights, or as archers on the frontline for some silly expansionist desires among the leaders and the economic agents of yet another empire.

may i suggest you watch the latest sci-fi Hollywood productions for young children, possibly together with your family?
and then factor in that in the most useful tech innovations ultimately are produced by the military R&D teams.

so, sorry, i'm going to have to keep promoting the MIC and DS in many of the aspects of my peace activism here and on my other droppoint, my fb timeline.
because the empires and supporter-countries of Iran, Turkey, China and Russia, AS WELL AS OUR OWN UNIPOLAR WESTERN EXPANSIONIST DESIRES THAT WE HAVE SHOWN THE WORLD, are just as much into abusing their own population to keep them and raise them ("tobacco is soo bad for you", but NOT when you combine it with my Evidence - weed marijuana - anti cancer - Google Drive ) to become sportsfreaks and thus more useful idiots on a battlefield - and the rich will silently reply with : "we needed another pruning of those we call weak" (soft drugs addicts for instance) (or prisoners) (or anyone who has challenged us online just a few times too often for our liking).
and it's the same throughout the entire world.
the rich get richer at great expense to, and suffering of, the poor and the lower and upper middle class.

and on top of that, we in the west are stingy by nature and indoctrination.
i'm not saying that this is a bad thing (factories must be built, equipped with personell, and kept running), but superyachts instead of donations to the poorest? just not done you know! how about both large donations to legit charities of your choice, AND 1 to 3 superyachts as long term investment.
show some frigging responsibility when you send the weak into wars where they'd be cannonfodder.
and have your wars with robotic powers as soon as possible.

I wouldn't know, since I don't know you.

And again, I can't get worked up about that.

Do you know what sucks? Guard duty at 0200 in the morning in the freezing rain guarding a parking lot full of trucks because some Drill Sergeant decided it was "Good Training".

Prison is supposed to be unpleasant. We could make our prisons like resorts if we wanted to (such as the Club Feds we send rich criminals to). But it kind of defeats the purpose.

Nothing to do with the conversation, but okay. I point out that Science Fiction often reflects our fears that turn out to be unfounded. The Stepford Wives is a great example. Today, that story wouldn't fly because we've changed as a society.

Besides being an Avid SF fan (real fans never say "Sci-Fi"), I also write science fiction stories. (I am currently looking at publishing on line).

I'm all for making the rich pay exorbitant taxes to pay for needed services.

The problem with automating wars is that it's ridiculously expensive. A drone costs millions of dollars to build and operate, but since no lives are directly on the line, it's more palatable than sending out troops.

agreed, some people are (temporarily) too dangerous to themselves or others to be left out in the open, or even on an closed ward setting in which they encounter their peers too soon.

but does it have to mean we (per current cel design) trigger claustrofobia in patients?

with a global (new) industry to create sturdy computer encasings, it can be done.
that's all i'm saying on this topic (today).
Strike the computers because they can be used by criminals to cheat and rob innocent people

that can be prevented with government-installed spyware ;)

Or we can- wait for it - actually punish criminals.

Shit, man, we need to make prisons worse.

No Law Libraries.
No Weight Rooms
No TV, or if they get TV, they get no say on what to watch. Maybe 24 hours of mind-numbing propaganda to make them go straight.
