What explains "democratic Socialists"?
Are they gullible? Ignorant? How were they deluded into believing that THEY will be the Billionaire Socialist dictator?
Socialist Paradise Venezuela: 2,000,000% inflation, no food, no running water, people eat their pets and sell their kids, the political leaders are BILLIONAIRES!
"You bet you life it will work this time!"

Some of it is running on karmic backlash,
because the Christians and rightwing had been pushing
those dominant beliefs into govt, then this is their turn.
In the end, we are heading toward recognizing political
beliefs as equally optional and not to be established by Govt
at the expense of other people's beliefs.
The pushing is to force as much as possible that people
can agree to or tolerate being embedded in Govt.
Whatever does not withstand the push to incorporate into Govt,
that will cause lobbying to defund and remove from Govt
on the basis of BIAS by beliefs and DISCRIMINATION by creed.
For example,
1. LGBT are pushing to REMOVE biases and bans AGAINST their beliefs from Govt and public policy.
(but if they push too far and incorporate/establish their beliefs, the Christians and others who do
not support those beliefs push back and demand equal protection from discrimination and penalties)
2. The abortion laws and Planned Parenthood funding is also in process of either being
pushed TOO FAR into govt or DEFUNDED where taxpayers have a choice NOT to be FORCED to
fund abortion related services against their beliefs.
3. How much "health care" will REMAIN through federal govt and how much will be
reformed and redirected back to private choice of people and states
4. Pushing for and against the "Wall" and/or policies on Sanctuary Cities and Amnesty/Dreamer programs
5. Pushing for or against "climate change legislation"
These are battles over political BELIEFS.
Until people figure it out to negotiate solutions, they keep using
the same "majority rule" system of trying to outvote and outnumber the other side.
When both sides equally have rights to their beliefs
without infringement by Govt. Until we recognize this,
the karmic backlash is going the other direction,
until the situation reaches a deadlock equilibrium
and we agree to respect and address each other as equals.
Cruz and Cortez might figure out that collaboration on solution
is better and doesn't require either side changing their beliefs.
We'll see if other leaders follow and figure out better approaches
more effective in crafting sensible legislation that doesn't
infringe on one side's beliefs or the other. That's the smarter way to work
