These are most likely observations of the lives of children who were known to be born out of adultery. Imagine being a child of a single mom in those days, with no father in the picture to provide, to train, to guide into apprenticeship. If the mom needed money, or could not provide for the child, one option would be to sell the child into slavery.

It is often not a piece of cake today for either mother or child when it occurs today either, even when the father is Hunter Biden.
