I think that they're a good thing and I don't think that they will rekindle inflation like this article talks about if America gets motivated to start making their own products again? I shop on Amazon all the time and I always avoid all products saying that they're being shipped out of China because they're in such poor quality.

I love tariffs when Trump uses them because he uses them like a hammer!

A threat of tariffs got mexico to stop the caravans of illegals...and to set up the remain in mexico policy.

He used the threat of tariffs to get many other countries to drop their tariffs on US companies.

And he actually imposed tariffs on some to save American jobs & entire industries (like steel).

Tariffs serve a purpose. Like many things, they're a benefit when wielded properly and appropriately and a detriment if not. Many nations have taken advantage of America and her lax trade policies. Trump knows who the bad actors are and knows how and when to use tariffs for the benefit of Americans and American businesses.

As the Left have said, tariffs will be the death of us all! Thing is, if the democrats are against them, then there MUST be something good they are not telling us.

Last time Trump used them, I don't remember my living expenses going up $4K a year as the Left warns! In fact, I don't recall any impact on my life at all. Used statically as the Left would claim, tariffs are like a tax on trade paid by the end user, but that is not how Trump uses tariffs---

Trump intends to use them dynamically as extortion to blackmail China into trading FAIRLY in order to AVOID them. What this means is that they take a LOT more of our exports in exchange for what WE import from them! This would have an immediate benefit to our economy and internal production!

But what if China refuses? Well, they can't. Trump is putting the screws to them. That is why Xi is so torqued at getting Trump back into office. If they refuse, trade effectively stops and THEIR economy suffers badly. They would not be able to sell their merchandise in our country, their main importer. We move onto something else. Now we have the impetus to begin just producing the stuff here at home and in better quality. Jobs and industries are created and we benefit. Further, while costs would go up, so would the economy and standard of living offsetting it.

So it is really a win-win for us in the long run. That is where the blackmail comes in. To avoid that, China has no option really but to open trade up more with us and start accepting more imports from us at the expense of their making it for themselves. In the long run, the benefits outweigh the expense in that trade markedly rises, manufacturing goes up, jobs are produced and the standard of quality and living go up to more than offset the street cost of goods.

Like a river of water, the fewer impediments there are to the flow of trade, the more EFFICIENT an economy becomes. And anytime you remove friction from any system, it operates better, producing more output for a given input. Right now, China has the system gamed for THEIR maximal benefit at our expense.

So why don't other politicians do this? Because like Joe Biden, they are BRIBED into making sweetheart deals which heavily favor China. But Trump cannot be bribed--- he does not need a new mansion on Rohoboth beach. This is why Milley must be tried for treason--- he is part of their global hegemony which puts foreign interest equal to or ahead of our national interests. The entire world is finding that with Trump back in office, they are all going to have to work a lot harder to suit US, while expecting a lot less in return--- we hold all the cards. The economic load becomes more EVENLY distributed around the world. The time of America being the butter and bread for the rest of the world making life easier for THEM at the expense of the American worker is soon coming to a close.

So why don't democrats celebrate this? Because they have all been baited and bribed to PREVENT it for China's benefit. By Trump violating their deals, they no longer get "rewards" which they have all been getting rich on. No wonder democrats are all bleating like wounded sheep.

The entire world depends on us for many things including our CONSUMPTION, and Trump is about to raise the bar of what he expects in return.

Word on the street is Trump just threatened the president of mexico with massive tariffs if he didn't stop the caravan that's headed to the USA right now!

And he's not even been sworn in yet

As a general rule, I'm against tariffs...Historically, they've been used to reward businesses that couldn't compete on an even footing with foreign rivals.

But there's no such thing as an even footing with a "competitor" that uses slave labor, manipulates its currency, and steals intellectual property.

I've evolved from a free trade fundamentalist to an "I'll give you the same deal that I get in your country" guy.

Not sure about any of it, but I just recently ran into a situation where a part was needed for my daughter's 2006 car. Tried all the sites on line, along with the junk yards in my local area, and I couldn't find it. So I finally tried a cross reference for the part on Amazon. I thought I had it, but when the part got here it was the wrong one. So I finally go to the dealer and order it. Wildly the part that can be held in the palm of my hand cost $165.00 dollars. It was a brake part. It took a few days to arrive.

Everyone I told this too, couldn't believe that such a small common part that appears to have about $20.00 worth of material worth, could cost a whopping $165.00 dollars.

This kind of stuff is killing American's pocketbook's, and is adding to the unsustainable debt the American citizen's are now holding and folding because of in this country.

Last I heard - Credit card debt was somewhere around a trillion dollar's in this country and counting, and I believe it.

Lucky for my daughter, I can repair the car myself or that cost would have been added into the bill at a shop.

Then we have the problem now of cheap unreliable everything being shipped into this country, yet the cost of the goods is holding strong for the bottom line's of these American outsourcing corporations who end up fleecing Americans out of their hard earned money.

What's amazing is companies buying equipment for extraordinary prices, and then finding out that they've been fleeced out of their money also. The Trucking industry is especially experiencing these kinds of things.

Just another example of the problems being faced.

What happened to the consumer protection agency in this country ?

Aren't goods and services supposed to be tested and vetted before released onto the American public ?

Will the appointee over that office begin to clean up the office, and restore faith and confidence in Americans trusting that office to protect their interest when investing or using the American goods and services platforms to buy from in this country again ?

The thing is though we can make things here yes, but we're going to have to pay workers considerably more than overseas for the same product same condition. People aren't going to flock to $15 per hour nor should we ask them to

Have to go back to our history that shows us where it all worked, and how the balance was made perfect, and the America first agenda with protections to boot, had of course insured both consumer and business to prosper in this country.

We know where it all went bad, and who caused it to go bad, so fixing it shouldn't be a problem.

Now asking greed driven anti-American globalist (that are American businessmen and women), to help to fix this thing by taking a little less on their bottom line is truly the biggest problem faced in this country, because everyone fears these giants of today. You say a worker shouldn't be asked to take less, and you are right they shouldn't have too if they are key to this thing, but not asking the top too reinvest in America by taking a little less on their bottom line is also unexceptable in the entire rehabilitation process needed.

We can get this thing right again, and the golden age Trump spoke of can exist once more in this country again.

I see your point. But, I truly wonder if the middle and lower classes are somehow going to be asked to endure some hardship while the wealthy sit back and tell them to work harder. Cuts to social security and medicare also would be a sign of turning against average folk

Shouldn't have to work harder, but rather everyone including the corporate heads must work smarter not harder, but first loyalty to American values and stability must be pushed front and center again.

And if they cry and whine that labor costs are too high then what? That's what they do now. We all.know for the most part that's a bunch of bunk.

They will just have to stop lying and crying, because if they cry and lie, then we should have offices in government that represent the country as a whole. If the worker's are being lied to an abused then those offices should seek to intervene through investigating the facts in the case. Law's should be created or applied if exist, in which would call out the liar's, and then charge them with the undermining of the nation's security by weakening the interior by abusive operational tactics being used. Otherwise we must operate as team America while still insuring our independence and liberties in the process.

They don't make vehicles as good as they used to. I see vehicles from the 40s, 50s, and 60s on the road working fine. But a 2016 Nissan my stepfather has broken down three or four times. And he had it for only THREE YEARS.

Tariffs are the chink in the current deep state's armor.
BUT
Tariffs also create a new version of Deep State operatives.

And where it has an opportunity to fix some issues....it also can create some new ones. Unless the mess in DC is fixed with regulatory agencies and DOJ....

It takes YEARS to build a Manufacturing facility AFTER approvals and permits are obtained...which also requires years of planning.

You can't build a factory without four things: Power, people, machinery and transportation. (If raw materials are available)

We don't have two of those things....the longer to create portion is Power/electricity.
We can't power the EVs....so what makes you think we can power factories? We can't energize a new subdivision.
