Hopefully this can be a civil discussion because I don't mean any ill will towards them whatsoever I just got legitimately curious. I mean it's hard for me personally to picture Thanksgiving without turkey, but hey, whatever floats your boat. 😁

Maybe a turkey substitute?

Two years ago my granddaughter, age 6 at the time, decided to go vegan at our Thanksgiving dinner. She ate everything except turkey. Since then she's returned to eating meat (she missed bacon).

There are lots of vegetarian dishes to choose from. Vegan is more difficult, because you can't use butter, cheese, eggs, etc. We had friends who were vegetarians at our Thanksgivings for many years. They always brought a good dish, and happily ate all the sides we had with the meal.

I can't understand the fake meat thing. If you're vegetarian or vegan, why would you want to eat something that's supposed to look and taste like meat?

Thank you! I feel exactly the same way about sex toys man. Like what's the point? :dunno:

They probably could have mashed potatoes, corn, and rolls without any butter.

I can’t imagine being vegan

I was vegetarian for a while, but ham snapped me out of it 😄

I have had some good vegan meals

Spices are the key

And the meat substitutes have come a long way

There are worse things than being vegan

The differing degrees of veganism are always amusing. Some of them won't wear leather shoes or eat honey. Literally nothing that comes from an animal.
My middle daughter is pretty much a pure vegan, but even she says honey is a grey area. lol

My wife and her are our families vegans and they do just fine at Thanksgiving. They make their own stuffing, potatos, and veggie dishes. They just don't eat the turkey and some of the dishes that are influenced by the turkey, i.e., the gravy, stuffing is cooked in a pan, not the bird.

They're happy with it and it doesn't affect Me in any way so I support them.

I knew one so hardcore that he wouldn't buy veggies form the Quakers - because they use enslave horses for their farming. It gets a bit ridiculous.

What's wrong with potatoes?

I love (farm) animals but I love meat more. 😁

Why?

A bit? What do they eat then?

Nothing is wrong with potatoes. It is how they are 'prepared' that is the question. A lot of people put butter and milk in their mashed potatoes, and the scallop-style potatoes often have cheese.

Their rule is, Nothing from an animal. No milk, no butter, no eggs, no flesh, and many other types of products.

Did you know that gelatin is made using bone marrow? They don't eat any gelatin at all.

There are, of course, workarounds, and America, being a capitalist society, has had companies step in to fill the void.
