Do you honestly believe, in the scenario YOU described, you would have the wherewithall to react to a terrorist "running down your street" in time to stop him?
You would have to be able to immediately recognize who and what he was, and have immediate and ready access to a means of stopping him -- a firearm would be best -- and then score a lethal hit with your first shot. This would also require that you be reconning your street rather than parking yourself in front of the tube or PC.

Feeding money into countries which educate their children to be terrorists in madrassas or which then funnel money to terrorist organizations undermines our ability to take on terrorists. Removing money from those countries by breaking our dependence on OPEC oil is very much a security issue.

If we could use it without creating a biohazard I'm all for it if it would get us independent from Arab oil. That solves two problems:
One, the obvious, is our independence from Arab oil.
Two, a viable alternative makes the only reason Arabs have any importance or leverage in the world go away, and they slime back into unimportant.
