58, lost toe to gangrene. Later got infection in left foot killed skin removal left a baseball size hole in bottom of foot (I got pics) you can see the skeleton. lost lower leg to mirza. broke back while in rehab, immobile below, unable to control most of the muscles don there no feelings lower right leg. No need Horse lift to get out of bed into wheelchair at 60.

I was a mess up until my 30's. I drank, smoked and took OTC meds for my frequent colds, smokers cough, etc. I also had a terrible coffee habit, drinking a dozen or more cups of strong coffee per day. I also partied a lot, chased the gals, was generally sleep deprived and fatigued.

I successfully quit smoking at age 30 which relieved me of the cough and colds, but I still wasn't right. My wife gave me a book on fasting and I was immediately motivated to try it. After a number of short fasts, I went on a three-day complete fast, remaining in bed all three days, only getting up to quaff distilled water and visit the bathroom.

During the fast every muscle and bone in my body ached as toxins build up over years were flushed out. I couldn't lay still but flopped around like a fish with the pain. But the worst pain was in my face. My sinuses hurt like someone had battered my face. This went on for a full day. The taste in my mouth was that of the antihistamines that I had been taking for years.

At the end of the fast I was a new man. I slept like a baby, my head was clear, and I had energy that I hadn't known since I was a kid.
I also found that I was a more thoughtful person as a result of the house cleaning. I became less concerned with myself.

My dad is in his 70s but is very fit and still can hit a golf ball over 200 yards. He does take meds for his high blood pressure but is very active.

I fasted in my younger years. My longest fast was 7 days. Pretty similar experience and results. After the 4th day my body felt light and clean. Don't know how else to describe it. I felt renewed and wasn't hungry

It is a process, not an event or a time. You get weaker and gradually lose muscle mass. You are injured more easily and it takes longer to recover. You accumulate fat where it is most visible.

If you lift weights or play a sport, it is likely that you can MEASURE your decline over time. Your max lift is no longer limited by strength but by your tolerance for pain. As a golfer who took up the game at age 50, I have seen my longest drives go from 250 yards to 200 at 76 y.o. As a bowler, my ball speed has gone from 15mph (at age 50) to 11.5 now (although my scores are about the same). My bike average riding speed has gone from 16 to 12 or less. I quit running years ago due to deteriorating knees. I no longer play tennis because I was getting injured almost every time out.

But if you care about your health and performance, you have to fight it. You work smarter, not harder, and take care to stretch before and after significant stresses. You watch your weight, take your drugs, and eat healthier foods. Otherwise, your body goes to shit. Rather, it goes to shit faster.

Im 75 had knee replacement triple bypass surgery and left knee fractured patella all many years ago. At age70 I coached and played soccer with teen and children. This week I shoveled snow an hour a day for 5 days. I still run intervals and go to the gym 3 days a week. Sure Im slowing down but never surrender stay active believe in yourself. Shit will happen. Keep moving forward. But dont be stupid

Thats called ketosis and its not healthy. There is no benefit to fasting that has ever been researched. You body was consuming itself

Fasting is just complete rest, accelerated, including your 'innards'. Good fer ya. Especially since most people drive their digestive system mercilessly by overeating.

The research that I read advocates intermittent fasting but does caution about causing gall stones.

I worked for a landscape company back in the day, laying sod. The work was so hard that I actually did die. My ghost is typing this.
