CHARLESTON, WV (WOWK) – West Virginia is still waiting on approval from the federal government for an emergency disaster declaration filed by Gov. Patrick Morrisey (R-WV) earlier this week.

This comes after President Trump has outwardly spoken about potentially dismantling FEMA altogether, something that Gov. Morrisey said he would not be getting into during a press briefing on Thursday.

“Right now, my focus is on helping as many West Virginians in need. That’s what we’re doing, and so I think that the FEMA people have been very collaborative and they’re helping us as we’re going through to identify the specific needs in various counties,” Morrisey said. “I’m not going to get caught up on that. I’m laser-focused on this issue, the people that are affected by the flood.”
