I was talking to a neighbour here in Ontario, Canada a few days ago and he noted that on his trip to Israel, [I believe that he was referring to what he observed as his plane came in for a landing], he stated that as you passed over Egypt it was a desert but as soon as you crossed the border above Israel, the land was green and full of vegetation. It really has nothing to do with Jews any more than anybody else though, wealthy or not. Yes the Israeli Jews have been very innovative and effective in getting the desert to bloom and should be a model for the world.

"Tikkun olam (Hebrew: תִּיקּוּן עוֹלָם, lit. 'repair of the world') is a concept in Judaism, interpreted by some within Orthodox
Judaism as the prospect of overcoming all forms of idolatry, and by other Jewish thinkers such as Reform Judaism as an
aspiration to behave and act constructively and beneficially." (Tikkun Olam, Wikipedia)
