For me I would have to say no. The man was unarmed and nobody's life was in danger.

Just because the shoplifter was unarmed doesn't mean he couldn't have disarmed the security guard and shot him with his own gun. If you carry a weapon, never allow anyone to disarm you, unless it's a law-enforcement officer.

Hey, you mess with a person's Halloween stuff, you takes yer chances. That's why I keep all of my porch pumpkins wired with C4 and my yard skeleton and vampire bat armed with a dagger. :smoke:

Seriously though, what did the store allow their guard to be armed for if he wasn't to use it? Where the guard runs into a gray area was in pulling his gun trying to make an arrest. At that point, why the gun went off--- did the guard SHOOT the robber or did it go off in a struggle?--- remains the legal question.

PROBLEM IS--- never pull a gun out unless you are prepared to USE IT.

Tell it to the family of Ashli Babbitt.

Now that was most definitely an unjustified shooting.

Not enough information to draw a conclusion.

.

Understandable but what kind of information are they missing? The guy was disarmed. The security guard could have punched him back and or tasered him, but I really don't think that shooting him dead was justified in this sense.

Yeah, but I don't think that he was reaching for his gun. Otherwise that would have made it a justified shooting.

In life threatening situations. I personally believe that this should include verbal threats but it looks like that wasn't even happening here.

Nothing said the guard had a tazer.

We'll just have to see whether he's convicted or not.

The BG was unarmed? Was the BG entangled with him because the pic shows he wasn't.

Here's a good example of discussing why its probably not good. Two use of force experts.
