Were Brown University students targeted because of the university’s adoption of pro-Israel policies? The attack on December 13 by a male assailant, two days before the start of Hanukkah, took the lives of two students and wounded nine others.

In July, the Trump administration agreed to restore funding for the university's federally sponsored medical and health sciences research after Brown agreed to several concessions, including a promise to take actions "to support a thriving Jewish community, research and education about Israel, and a robust Program in Judaic Studies," according to the terms of the deal.

Unclear that is the motive.

The primary target at Brown was a female leader of College Republicans, that's possibly a big clue.

The guy at MIT was pushing for yet another $50 billion to be wasted validating once again that you cannot get useable sustained safe nuclear fusion without the gravitational mass of a star...

What is completely clear is that the Brown U hierarchy and police/security did the exact same thing they did at Utah Valley State, enable the execution, hide evidence, and allow the real killer(s) to escape.
