Poverty in Russia
Russia is claiming there are fewer poor people in the federation but there is a problem with the definition of poor. According to the Federal Service for State Statistics of the Russian Federation, anybody whose basic needs are met isn´t poor. We are talking about food, housing, ect.
So there are only 6,8 % poor people in Russia. A historic low!
The service´s figure is also influenced by the following circumstances:
- The annexed territories are excluded from the statistic
- Rise in food prices are attributed not to inflation, but to the cold winter. (This winter was stronger than usual indeed, though)
Result: More than 50 % of the Russian population are located between poor and middle class.
