Republican Jeannie LaCroix won a special election to the Prince William County Board of Supervisors in Virginia on Tuesday, flipping a seat Democrats had held since the 1980s.

The flip in the Northern Virginia district runs counter to a recent trend of Democratic overperformance and seat flips in special elections around the country. Northern Virginia has trended strongly Democratic in statewide and national contests in recent decades.

LaCroix received 1,694 votes, more than 43.7 percent, defeating Democrat Muhammad Sufiyan “Sef” Casim, who received 1,436 votes, about 37 percent. Write-in candidates secured 744 votes, about 19 percent of the vote. A Republican hasn’t held the seat in 38 years.

Well now, I'm even surprised!

Do you know when the vote is for that redistricting steal the Dems are planning in order to disenfranchise 45% of Virginians? I think it’s April 21.

Well, that's a little ray of sunshine.
I'm glad to see that.
Because Virginia is currently on the Endangered Species list.
Thomas Jefferson would despise what his state has become: ex-CIA operatives and foreign-born radicals destroying the Constitution.

I posted it with him in mind. ;)

It's a "big deal" as it's in a NOtVA county.

It also shows the disarray of the dems by giving the seat to a goper because they could not get their shit together.....I hope to see more of it, like in CA. ;)

Prince William County always has a chance for sanity.

Fairfax and Arlington - forget about it.

I lived in Fairfax cty in the early 1980's and it somewhat Republican at that time. Arlington and Alexandria has D for years before that.

No....PW Co. has been blue since The Halfrican's first term.
I seem to remember they had a Republican rep, but perhaps that was longer ago than I remember.

Was it Tom Davis? That was 20+ years ago.

Ah….good times.

He was a flawed candidate

While the social media page where the messages appeared has since been taken down, records from other sources, including the Prince William County Republican Committee, cited posts "comparing Israel to Nazi Germany, endorsing the persecution of Christians and accusing the United States of funding genocide abroad."

Archived posts attributed to Casim included racial slurs, sexually explicit insults and disparaging comments about religious and ethnic communities, according to records circulated by local Republicans.

The Left has become decidedly anti-American, anti-Christian, and anti-Israel, as this particular leftist candidate so clearly demonstrated.

It’s somewhat relieving that even in liberal Northern Virginia, there’s a bridge too far for voters to accept. I wonder, though, if he could have pulled it off in a district a little closer to DC, like Fairfax or Arlington.

In Leesburg a few years ago, there was an Israel-hating Muslim who ran for a spot on the Board of Supervisors - and he had social media posts that said “donating to Israel is like donating to the KKK.” He won anyway.
