A fun way to dispatch bumble bees is with snake loads in a .22 revolver. Bumble bees tend to try to intimidate you by hovering in front of you. Snake loads are tiny bits of lead that spread out and it doesn't take a good shot to pulverize a bumble bee. My guess is that you could make a game of the giant hornet the same way.
