Number one, you're two days late.

Number two, that guy wasn't beaten, beheaded or anything else. That guy never even existed. He was made up.
He was made up for a reason: the fertility rite already existed and the Church was trying to co-opt it. As they did with Easter. And Christmas. And Hallowe'en.
