BBC News - US student scarred in east London bottle attack
Brick lane is an Asian area of London and can, as many parts of London are, be a bloody dangerous place.
The photo shows Asian men, maybe Indian or Pakistani, and mentions they hit the American with the bottle he was drinking from.
It also mentions an argument.
One has to condemn the bottle attack but one equally wonders what the arument was about and the state of the victim's mind.
Most soft drinks in the UK are supplied in plastic bottles so glass suggests beer or spirits; in turn suggesting the victim could have been in a less than sober state.
Booze has a habit of fuelling a difficult situation.
Add the very common America "I am" attitude we so commonly see and there you go.
I was in such a situation with a stupid American some years ago.
The big headed idiot was in London but felt the need to shoot his fat mouth off about Her Royal Highness and the royal family.
He soon attracted a 'gang' of passers by who were a inch off teaching him some manners.
Of course, none of that excuses a bottling but it may help explain why the trouble started.

Bottle and drinking glass attacks are very common in Britain.
Sufficiently so that their leftists are contemplating that drinks be served only from barrels with the purchaser holding his/her mouth under the spigot to eliminate the requirement for any sort of container that might be used to assault.
They had thought about having people bring their own plastic bags to receive their drinks but ruled that out because plastic bags pollute.
