N Korea has a massive number of combat ready troops. How well trained is another issue, but, they have the numbers. Losing even 100k to help Russia and gain some global credibility will receive little concern in their Party leadership.

As many as 8,000 North Korean troops are in Russia’s Kursk region and are expected to enter combat against Ukraine in the coming days, top US officials announced Thursday.

Secretary of State Antony Blinken, speaking alongside Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin and their South Korean counterparts in Washington, said the troops have been trained “in artillery, UAVs, basic infantry operations, including trench clearing, indicating that they fully intend to use these forces in frontline operations.”

Although the US has not yet seen the troops engaged in the actual fighting, Blinken warned Thursday that “should these troops engage in combat or combat support operations against Ukraine, they would become legitimate military targets.”

You are correct in that they are seeking currency. That was one of the details which was new to me (though not very surprising really) but which I had heard of by multiple online channels so I did a bit of research.

There is probably a much larger geo-political issue here, which is why S Korea may get involved with weapons and even troops themselves. This is how much of a danger they see this. This suggests that currency is just one critical objective for them.

It's not the world we want. World Wars are very precarious and there are no guarantees as all nations will ramp up their military technology and innovation research and development. THis is how America ended WWII. It could just as easily go the other way this time.

Isn't it just an opportunity for them to gain some real combat experience so long as the treaty between Russia and them makes it a legitimate possibility? Russia is maybe just letting them do that as long as the fighting is going to take place at the Russian territory.
