A U.S. military aircraft crashed in Northern Norway with four people on board. The V-22 Osprey aircraft went down in bad weather while taking part in a NATO military exercise when it was reported missing.

Sucks ............but so????????

Accidents happen all the time on deployment. ALL THE TIME........Why Air Craft Carriers have a morgue onboard..........because almost every deployment people die.

you would make the worst therapist ever to families of the dead..."stuff happens! get a napkin! life's vicious! we've all got problems!"

Reality sucks...........just the way it is and always has been so..........Can't help it if you can't handle REALITY.

We had a morgue on the LHD too........for the very same reason.

That is very sad.

My best friend's son is there right now for the exercise. It is a sought after deployment

Osprey is a dicey aircraft.....just like the AV-8 Harrier was.

They had some issues to start with, but they have worked those out.

Yep. Had something to do with some big ass rings. They almost killed the program but then the War on Terror saved the bird. They are pretty cool aircraft.

They are very cool. My last duty station was MCAS New River, we had two squadrons of them. We had to replace the concrete on the pads they landed on as they put off so much heat. There was few times they caught the grass on fire at the LZ on Camp Lejeune.

My understanding was that computers saved them

When the rotors switch from hover to forward it is incredibly hard without really advanced programming to make that work without losing lift

Is anyone crying about all the lost crewmen from the failed test flights?

Couldn't make anything political about them so no?

The Navy has a new version of them coming on line, Basically one with a lot more fuel capacity for longer distance missions than the Marines' model.

The Osprey's are known to be tricky bastards to fly.

Latest reports all dead. Went down in mountain area with high winds and snow. Apparently the Marines don't have a lot of experience operating them in those conditions so not clear if it was more pilot error or weather at this point.

Was from my neighbor's son unit, but wasn't him.

It took a long time to develop it. It has issues in different types of environments also. Not the best for many desert situations with the composition of the soil or sand affecting the dust up from the huge propellors. Crashes have occurred just from that.
