US Immigration now wants all student/work study Visa applicants to set their social media to public for vetting

About time....If you are gonna be our guest we want to know about you.

From what i understand is the UK effectively has no immigration controls so we have to fully vet whoever is coming from there.

Requiring visa applicants to make their social media public is a troubling overreach that undermines privacy and free expression. It sets a dangerous precedent by coercing individuals into digital self-surveillance and could lead to arbitrary denials based on misunderstood context or political views. National security should not come at the cost of civil liberties.

on the other hand

Requiring visa applicants to make their social media public helps protect national security by allowing immigration officials to better assess potential threats and screen for harmful intentions. It adds an extra layer of transparency, helping ensure that those entering the country align with our laws and values. In an age where much of one's character is reflected online, this measure can serve as a useful tool to identify red flags early and support safer communities.

Good.

Make it automatic deportation if such a visa holder signs up for another account and "forgets" to make it public. They'll be crying about it - "he was sent back to live in his brutal Hellhole, just for making a Facebook account!" Remember to laugh at their tears.

We don't need immigrants who are forgetfull about following the law.
