US budget deficit totals $76.9 billion in July

And here is our fiscally "responsible" Republican Party. What happened to the deficit hawks? What happened to all the wailing and gnashing of teeth about the growing debt when Obama was in office?

The Trump administration last month sharply revised upward its deficit estimates, projecting annual deficits will once again top $1 trillion next year.

For the current budget year, which ends Sept. 30, the administration is now projecting a deficit of $890 billion. That would be up 33.7 percent from last year’s deficit of $665.8 billion.

The administration’s July estimates project that the deficit will top $1 trillion in 2019, climbing to $1.1 trillion that year, and remaining above $1 trillion for three years.

Republicans only cared about that when Trump was running for office. Now they could care less.

Which is about half of the deficit under Obama at the same point of his presidency, only without the GDP growth (which, as a percentage, makes the deficit even lower). Therefore, the trend is down.

GDP growth is mostly a result of the government spending, though.
Yes it is.

Address mandatory spending and the bills that are coming due from this and pensions...............or reap the whirl wind.........

This is our path.

Trump was never afraid of running deficits. Said so MULTIPLE times in his campaign. Voters knew well he had no fundamental opposition to running debts. Look at his business finances.

There is expected to be a balanced budget before the next election...................A gov't shutdown so everyone can go batshit crazy...........right now as planned......scripted..........extraordinary measures are in place to juggle finances to KEEP THE GOV'T AFLOAT..........OMFG..............

It's happening again............and scheduled late Sept........early October the battle will be on...........Act 2 scene 9..........On how the politicians are going to save us all and how evil Trump is for daring to do so................Must have an omnibus now.........or WE ARE ALL GOING TO DIE..........granny will not get her Social Security check.........EVEN THOUGH it's Mandatory spending.............

Enjoy the show.......

So when Trump said he would run the government like a business.......he meant massively increasing its debt load?

Probably so. When your whole venture is risky as many of his were, the financing thru loans was the LEAST scary part. He actually said more than once in the campaign that running deficits were NOT a "bad thing".

Running deficits, yes. Exploding the deficit, no.

And its the latter that he's doing.

Actually the deficit is exploding just fine on it's own. What with the Baby Boom and interest rates popping up, it would expand by it's lonesome. Pretty much the budget has been on autopilot for over a decade now. Cruise Control is more like it...

so fla you are all for cuts to medicare? which everyone was forced to pay into

Nobody is "FOR" it, but it is a reality that the cuts have to come. There simply isn't enough other peoples money to take anymore. You could bankrupt every one percenter in the country, and you wouldn't make a dent in the debt.

The budget deficit has been fairly stable for years. Its skyrocketing immediately after massive corporate tax cuts that have shifted the tax burden from corporation to wage earners.

Taxes from corporations, down 29%. Taxes from working people, up 8%.

And the deficit is suddenly and predictably set to skyrocket.

So how many budget hawks do you have in YOUR tribe? I think you done shot them all in head by now.. No more Blue Dog Dems that used to restrain YOUR spending.

Don't think that ANY Dem truly Gives a freak about debt and deficit until they are locked out of power...

Aint' shifted a DAMN thing "from corporate to wage earners". The only wage earners paying ANY INCOME TAX AT ALL are making $100,000 or more. 1/2 of the wage earners now pay ZERO...

Aint happening Slim.. Fire the morons who fire you up about phony outrages like that one.

At this point, do you think that republicans care about the budget? They *gleefully* exploded our deficit to give corporations a massive and unnecessary tax cut. Again, US corporations already had record profits. The economic trendline barely budged.

Even Forbes writers were dumbounded by this tax cut and deficit explosion in the midst of an economic expansion.

'Fiscal Responsibility' is just lip service. Just like republican commitment to 'free trade' (tarriffs anyone), States Rights (California can no longer set its own air quality standards), 'family values' (Grab them by the pussy, hush money for pornstars), and keeping government out of business (Trump's threats against Harley Davidson, Carrier and others).

The Republican party no longer stands for much of anything. They've sacrificed their identity for.......Trump.

THAT was the motivation for the Tea Party. Had more to do with extreme dislike of anti-capitalist deficit spending on the part of GW Bush than Obama.

You should really worry about the fractures and lunatics in your tribe.. :auiqs.jpg: That's a suggestion from a guy who can't wait til BOTH of your corrupt, inept, incompetent parties self-destruct... :5_1_12024:

Like I've been saying....

You can't keep spending money you don't have,
and borrowing money you can't pay back,
without consequences

Politicians are corrupt and fiscally irresponsible
Nothing is free...someone has to pay for it
Too many people are leeches
Too many people place a burden on our country

That's probably why they would like to do away with,
your average, law abiding citizens, being armed....
when shit hits the fan, which it will,
and the facade comes tumbling down,
there is going to be hell to pay!

Obama and comp. didn't prevent a financial catastrophe,
they put a band aid on it and prolonged the inevitable...

There is no way to prevent the inevitable consequences....
many people are in for a rude awakening
