It's because I retired from teaching a week ago after 32 years in the classroom.

Really bizarre to think about the technology changes in my career. I started by spinning CDs...and if I wanted a certain piece of music, I would have to stop at the record store at the mall! If you had told me in 1993 I would someday hold a small device on which I could play almost every known music, I would have thought you saw it on the Jetson's (iykyk).

I taught before EMAIL. I taught when we got paper checks we had to deposit in the bank. I even taught when teachers had "Cadillac" health care benefits (those days are gone).

So if I'm lurking in the day, it's not because I take too many days off or let my kids watch movies while I play around. Nope, I'm retired! :)

Congrats! Well done!

CONGRATULATIONS. You will be missed.

Thank you! Most of the students did not want to see me go to be honest, which is EXACTLY how I wanted to go out. Maybe not on my A game of a few years ago, but definitely still adding value, I think. I never wanted to be that teacher that everyone thinks should have retired years ago!

Congratulations!

I have a great guy who just retired from his teaching job, who comes and does my maintenance around the house -- yard work and snow blowing, etc -- and I pay him very well because he is just my hero! He retired a little early but he was so tired of the BS the parents were putting him through. He has a wonderful reputation around our small town. So many parents whose kids he taught absolutely respect him!

After you reach a new equilibrium, you'll find things to do, and maybe find some casual money making opportunities.

Thank you for the years you gave to your students!

Sleep in. Have breakfast in bed. Get up and mosey around instead of rushing out the door. Take up needlepoint or cross stitch, or pickleball, or what ever fun you didn't have time for before. Watch a movie instead of grading papers. Go on vacation for as long as you want. Have so much fun!!!!!!!

Mazel tov!

Mazel tov!
Retirement takes some getting used to. Make a list of hobbies you might want to explore. Some of them won't be as good as you thought they might. Move on to the next. You'll find something(s) that will hold your interest. If it's not fun, don't do it.

That could be a bit of a challenge since I have no workdays here. Besides, it's not like teaching is REAL work... it is FUN! :smoke:

You and I have different ideas on playing music then. :SMILEW~130:

What is e-mail? :eusa_whistle:

If it helps any Sue, when I started school, it was in a wood frame school house with no air conditioning or even window screens.

So if I'm lurking in the day, it's not because I take too many days off or let my kids watch movies while I play around. Nope, I'm retired!
We will just assume you are goofing off again in the teacher's lounge as usual.
