The FBI has a well-documented history of spying and harassing King all the way up until his death. They wire-tapped his phone, read his mail, and did everything the could to delegitimize and “neutralize” him. The FBI, led by J. Edgar Hoover, even sent a suicide letter to King encouraging him to kill himself.
