Unemployment Rises to 6.2%

Old Workers Hit New Record High As Jobs For Key 25-54 Age Group Slide By 142K

Another month, another case where the primary age group of the US work force, those aged 25-54, gets shafted.

According to the BLS' household survey, while overall July jobs rose, if modestly less than the 209K revealed by the establishment survey, there was no joy for those aged 25-54: historically the most important and highest earning age group (in case anyone is wondering where all that missing average hourly earnings growth is) within the US labor force. As the chart below shows, while all other age groups posted a jobs uptick, it was those 25-54 that saw a 142K jobs decline in the past month.

WRAPUP 2-U.S. job growth cools, unemployment rate rises to 6.2 percent

* Unemployment rate rises to 6.2 percent from 6.1 percent

* Average hourly earnings up 1 cent, workweek steady

WASHINGTON, Aug 1 (Reuters) - U.S. job growth slowed more than expected in July and an unexpected rise in the unemployment rate pointed to some slack in the labor market that could give the Federal Reserve room to keep interest rates low for a while.

Nonfarm payrolls increased 209,000 last month after surging by 298,000 in June, the Labor Department said on Friday.

IF the truth were known, i would say we can double that number.

Did Bush ever see six straight months of 200,000+ jobs?

Obama has added more jobs in the last six months than Bush did in eight years

Why would you bring up Bush when the labor market under Bush was 10 times better than under Obama? You won't hear any democrat initiate a comparison.

are you really trying to spin this as bad news?

That's all they can do while the niggrah's in office. Then, when the Hillebeast takes over, it'll be more of the same.

"Women aren't smart enough to run a country keep them in the kitchen!"

Another liberal referring to african americans as *******.

SOME are, Pelousi comes to mind, Lerner, Holder, and that ******* mouth piece press sec. who spews the rhetorical bullshit fed to him from the Oral Orifice. ................ :lmao:

Indeed- Since the 60's they have been hiding but do slip up from time to time.

Democrat President Lyndon Johnson Explains How His Phony ‘War On Poverty’ Is Really A Slavemaster’s Con: ‘I’ll Have Those ******* Voting Democratic For The Next 200 Years’

any questions ?

Here is the left wings idiotic logic.

They ***** about wage inequality yet champion letting low wage/low skilled workers flood our border.

They ***** about our education system and funding, yet they champion flooding our school systems with people who don't speak English and will cost billions to assimilate.

They ***** about how bad is our health care system but champion the entry of those with TB and other exotic diseases. Thus putting a strain on the system they say sucks.

They actually don't ***** about the unemployment rate because that would look bad for Obama but how much of the increase can be attributed to the increase in low skill/ low educated workers?

Bush took that unemployment rate from 4.4% up to 8%

He was losing 700,000 jobs a month while conservatives whine about 209,000 added jobs this month

That is why we bring up Bush

Did Obuma ever see unemployment under 5.5%?

Not since Bush raised it to 8%

Or, since there is a definite correlation, maybe electing a democrat controlled house and senate had more to do with it then anything Bush may or may not have done. Other then warn Congress of impending housing crash.
Oh? What bills did that Democrat-led Congress pass which led to the financial meltdown, which in turn, increased unemployment?

I'd like to see that correlation....

The civilian population increased by 209K, and jobs increased by 209K....a sign of an anemic economy which can barely create enough jobs to keep up with population growth.

you're right. our babies need jobs!

Let me tell you why you bring up Bush. It's because you turn everything into a partisan issue. With you it's always Bush bad Obama good. When you talk about the economy it's quite evident that you know very little, yet you spend all day talking about it so you can root for the politician you like. I know you won't admit to it, but you know I'm right.

If your brain can't think in a complex way, than you're never going to understand how the economy works.

Instead of thinking in third grade math ( 2+2=4) you'll have to think in a little more complex math (like 4 + (5x4) -2+7(x)+2).

Bush's Unemp numbers were outstanding during his 7 years until the financial meltdown - which was a result of many years of negative forces in which many had a part- hit in his last year where the crisis drove the numbers way down.

Any honest person knows you can't take the event that was not 100% of his making and pretend that was a reflection of just Bush's economic policies. In fact some would say it was only about 20% of his making.

Just like nowhere do you ever see a liberal make adjustment for the 9/11 impact on the economy that Bush had ZERO to do with causing but had to fix.

But it's fun watching libs pretend it's all 2+2=4.

Apples and Oranges....You can't directly compare jobs increases to the Labor Force statistics....different surveys, time periods, definitions.

The Adult Civilian Non-Institutional Population increased 209,000
Total Employment, from the Current Population Survey, increased 131,000: Enough to keep the employment-population ratio the same (surely you don't think the increase in jobs should equal the increase in population???)

Unemployment increased 197,000, with 141,000 being from people re-entering the Labor Force, 23,000 from new entrants, 8,000 people who quit. Oh, and 3,000 fewer people who were unemployed because they were fired or finished a temp job.

And we have a 59% employment to population ratio, the same as the prior month - which is incredibly low.

Add to that the fact that a lot of job creation is in low paying part time jobs, and we have dismal employment picture...especially for the lower and middle classes.

It's always apples and oranges yet I never see you O supporters say that when people bring up Bush years.

But Boedicca's bigger point is something you can't spin. Which is that this is a sign the outlook for growth is going to be worse than "experts" had predicted.

so you're saying trickle down doesn't work
