The end of January provides time for negotiations to take place, and offers the opportunity for America to reconsider.

America's decision will always be popular with the people who have been taught to hate Russia/Putin, but there's always been covert arrangements made in private that left an opportunity to patch up differences.
Let's just hope that American foreign policy is not going for all the marbles at this critical time.

I very highly suspect that he's a very strong patriot who will be willing to fall on his sword to save his country.
