The problem that Germany has with cutting off oil from the Russian Federation is that doing so would create a revolution in their own realm. Their people wouldn't stand for it if they are freezing and their country comes to a halt.

I suppose that Germany could develop its own sources of power, but who knows how much time that would take.

I'm not supporting anyone, just observing the behavior of the Germans and giving an explanation for it.

And BTW, Germany is truly screwed if the Russian Federation finds new markets for its oil in Red China or other Asian countries. Once the oil starts flowing east instead of west, it will be tough to reverse the flow.
